Help......can't Fill Up.......

Ford focus titanium 1.6 fuel cap cover with no lock.

Running on fumes this morning so went to fill up, the cover wouldn't open!!

Then it sort of popped off.

The black plastic hinge bit it was attached to is not budging, so it is sitting across the whole cap, stopping me from filling up.

There is a big scratch on that back corner of the car like someone was parked in a van behind it, and misjudged it when they have pulled out.

I think it looks like it has knocked the hinged bit off its fixing.

Should I try and push the hinge inwards to pop it back into place?

I am frightened of breaking it. Please help.........

sounds to me that the fuel cap lid is still locked. You have not got out of the car and locked the doors have you ?

look when you lock the doors and the fuel filler hinged lid is closed, a plastic spiget pops up from below where the hinge is sat. This locks into a hole in the bottom of the hinge when the doors are locked. If you try prizing it open it will either snap the spiget in two, or you will break the part of the hinge that is blocking the fueling hole. I reckon that is the problem it's in the lock position, nothing to do with somebody whacking your car.
