Thats the Mazda 121.

Basically, it's a Fiesta. Everything was the same apart from odd bits of black plastic and different badges.

The car looks good but is still pretty conceptual - that weird backlit writing on the boot and the interior. Saying that, it looks pretty good... not quite as sporty looking as an MG would've looked before but I don't think that's what they're going for with the new models.

In reality it'll probably be some poorly rehashed chinese/indian thing.

But aren't Mazda part of Ford?

They were; Ford sold their majority shareholding 'recently' and now hold a much smaller stake in the firm.

The Mazda 121 was, as already noted, exactly the same car as a Fiesta MKIV, with different badging. Arguably, they are a better buy, as they depreciated a little quicker than the Ford and were a more sensible first-time buy.

I perhaps worded the earlier post wrongly,Its not a re badged ford ,its a Nanjing designed chinese model ,just looks very much like a Fiesta!

For those who are interested the Mazda 121 was indeed the Mk4 fiesta with a different grill and badges, they were built in the Ford factories in Valencia and Dagenham,on the fiesta tracks.

I think it looks more like the Polo if I'm honest...

And the Fiesta shares many parts with the Mazda 2, which is why at first glance I can mistake them (like the Mazda 121 and Mk4 Fez)

Most of the Mazda range use Ford platforms:

The Mazda 2 is based on the fiesta

The Mazda 3 is based on the Focus(as are the Volvo s30,s40,v50)

The Mazda 5 is based on the c-max (which in turn is based on the focus)

The Mazda 6 is based on the Mondeo

The Rx7 and cx7 are pure Mazda(although the cx7 has Kuga styling)

The RX9 (not in Uk),is the Ford Edge

Correct. Ford incresed their share in Mazda a while back, revamped them and then parted company - you can bet with some pretty hefty covenants regarding platform use too :) Mazdas are decent, if a little bland on the inside.

I think Ford still have a small share of Mazda (about 10-15 %)

They did have 33% about 5 years ago,

Yeah, I refer to "parted company" in that Ford are no longer the parent and Mazda simply becomes an investment. Ford have had their fingers in the Mazda pie for ages!
