Chip In Windscreen & Not Covered..

Hi everyone I got a chip in my windscreen about 2 weeks ago and I rang my insurance company to see if they cover it...they don't :(

So I was wondering can you just phone up Autoglass and get a quote from them or what?

Also how much is it likely to cost?

I really don't have a !Removed! clue.

Cheers :)

Andy, see my topic from a few weeks ago.

No idea on prices as mine was free through insurers ( elephant ) using autoglass and as you can tell they did a top notch job!

Just ring up tell them the situation, if the chip is smaller than a £2 coin ( 25mm or under) then it is repairable using the resin fill, if not then it could be a new screen for you :(. Best give them a ring though, hope all turns out cheap for you!

Thanks a lot Jack, that helped a fair bit.

It looks like I'll be stumping up £80 or so to get it glued back to normal..

Ah well, !Removed! happens!

Once again cheers Jack - big help!

What insurance co are you with? Not covering windscreen chips is pretty poor performance.

I'm with an insurer called Quinn Direct.

When filling out all the details etc. I apparently didn't tick the box for Windscreen Cover.

Well that's what they said anyway...

man that blows, the electric heated screens are very pricey if you're gonna be paying full whack... i'd lube up ready :(

how long you got til renewal? you could just wait and make sure you get it on your new policy then few weeks into it ring up autoglass. the screen won't break in, you'll be fine for years if need be

My renewal isn't until about September time...so quite a way off yet.

I just went on Autoglass website and filled out their forms asking about the size and position etc. and they're saying it will be from about £79.

Not mega disastorous but still not fantastic...

you'd be paying that in excess anyway so no loss there. unless of course you believe the chip is repairable... all the chips i've had have ben smaller than a £2 coin and fairly shallow, yet each time i've had to have a new windscreen. twice with autoglass and the other time was the insurers company of choice. i've got a beast of a chip at the mo which has developed into a crack across the screen. waiting a while before getting it repaired as i'll inevetably pick up a few more in the next month. :(

Do people get more chips than usual in the MK7? I mean i've been driving since i was 18 and have only had to have one chip, and one screen replaced ever... and the screen was on a car that i'd bought with the crack!

I think the Mk7 Fiesta's are more prone to getting chips on the windscreen than most other cars because the windscreen is really big compared to a normal cars.
