Predation
Hi people, I have browsed these forums (not extensively I must admit) and cannot find the answer to my problem. So here goes: I recently purchased a new mk7 Ford Fiesta (10 plate) from Allen Ford Coventry. My parents also have the mk7 Ford Fiesta (59 plate). Allen Ford, in their wisdom, forgot to supply me with my locking wheel nut key... however they did supply my parents with one, but with their wheel nut key came a code that was for their remote key replacement, should they ever lose their keys. Obviously I wasn't jumping for joy at the revelation my car was missing a fundamental item in the event I needed to change my wheel (which I do!!!). I visited Allen Ford today and they provided me with a locking wheel nut key - excellent. However upon questioning them about my keyless entry (which my parents do not have) code, in the event I lost both my keys, they claimed that you are not provided with one when you purchase the car. That leads me to question 1: Did/have any of you been provided with a code for your keyless entry systems? I then proceeded to ask the question of how they would manage to replace my keys should I have lost them both, and i had no codes or anything to provide them with. They had no clue, surprise surprise... So my next question is: If we are not supplied with these codes that normal remote keys have, and we lose our keys, how do we get them replaced by the dealer when they won't have a clue about the unique codes used by the car to lock and unlock my doors! I'm not particularly impressed by the complete lack of knowledge these people have about their products, albeit salesmen/women or not. However i'm more worried about the fact that if they can just sync a key up to my car without a code, what's to stop someone obtaining a few blank keys and just driving off with my car from the local strip club car park (where i'm obviously only parking because it's quicker to get to the town centre) Many thanks for any constructive replies, suggestions or similar experiences you all may have had p.s. if it's particularly difficult to understand, i'm sorry, if I think of a way to simplify the situation i'll perhaps rewrite this in the morning whilst suffering from my world cup hangover

fordpartsman
sorry if this becomes a lengthy reply, i actually work for allen ford, not the coventry branch though. and i am responsible for the cutting of keys when your vehicle was delivered to us, its key code would have been logged on our computer system. as said this will be a four digit code, this is what is used to cut a key and gain entry to the vehicle. if you open up you fob there is a key blade inside, this is what they will cut. this is then used to gain entry as said. the code given to your parents on a slip of white paper with a tonne of writing on with an 8 digit code in a box is NOT to do with your ignition key number, it is the number for the locking wheel nut key, should this get lost, unfortunatly most people keep the two together, FOOLISH. so in short, all they will need is the FOUR digit code hope this helps
