Surging Fiesta Diesel

Hello,

I've got a 99/2000 Ford Fiesta with an Endura DE 1.8 engine.

It starts and runs fine, no smoke at all. Lately there is a sort of surging, where the power seems to build and then fade. It happens in second and third, always between about 1200 and 1800 rpm. Once past 1800 it's all smooth.

It's only really noticeable on town driving. On motorway driving I suppose that part of the rev range is soon driven through.

Has any one had this problem before, and had it fixed, or have any suggestion as to what I should check first before I go the route of my local dealer and then more new parts than I can shake a stick at! B)

Thanks

Phill

it could be a gunked up or sticking egr valve which can be cleaned or look for a split pipe to the valve,

Thanks mintalkin, I'll try that.

For what it's worth I had a chat with a Spanish mechanic who said basically drive with a heavier foot or get a new fuel filter!!!!!
