2004 1.6 Zetec Oil Pressure Warning

Hi, Ive got a 2004 1.6 Zetec engine and the oil warning light keeps flashing up ever so often.

Its intermitent, but tends to happen when the car is coming down from speed to a stop, ie idle....at this point the oil warning light will flash up and you can also hear the top end being starved of oil as it goes all clattery....if you quickly rev the engine it will clear itself and will then happily idle and potter along at low mph/revs with no further problems.

However, once you get the car upto speed and then come back down to a halt the process starts all over again.

Oil has been checked and its above the minimum level....my thoughts are that it could be one of the following oil pressure switch, oil pump, clogged oil pick etc.

Im not familiar with this engine as the car is new to me....are there any well know faults such as the one I mention?

Many thanks

best advice is have it checked out before you end uo with serious damage sounds like a possible wiring fault to the oil pump but it could be the pump itself each time the top end is starved it causes a little bit of damage and can lead to expensive issues
