Remote audio functions not working

:( I've just purchased an 04 focus 1.4lx with the 3000 radio cassette. After a couple of days getting used to the car , I thought I would try the controls next to the steering wheel (Volume up & down etc.)

but nothing is happening. The radio/cassette works fine . I've not received the handbook yet , on order from ford, does this feature need turning on or is it bust .... any ideas would be appreciated....

as far as im aware the remote is pluged into the radio by a cable make sure these are connected, if somebodys had the radio out they could of forgotten to plug it back in
