Focus_ST-3
My cooling fan kicks in as soon as the engine is started and stays on all of the time. A few people have commented that it is also very loud! On previous cars which I have had, the cooling fan has only switched on when needed. Is this normal with the new Fiesta or is their a fault? Thanks
andy64
Is your air conditioning turned on? Mine does this too - but only if the a/c's on, the Fiesta uses the same fan for the a/c condensor & engine cooling; unlike other cars which I've owned which have had separate fans. Mr Kipling
Mine is on all the time too, could well be the A/C but it's not been an issue on other cars I've owned. I drove 2 MK 7's before buying and they were the same, disappointing for a new car as other manufacturers keep the engine cool using normal airflow except when stuck in traffic. Focus_ST-3
Thanks for the replies, i've tried turning the air-con off but the cooling fan still kicks in straight away after start up, must just be the design of the cooling system! Lenny
Thanks for the replies, i've tried turning the air-con off but the cooling fan still kicks in straight away after start up, must just be the design of the cooling system! I think your rite mate,It could be the internal design of the MK7 as the radiator is positioned behind the front sub frame which as you can see in the pictures is blocking half of the radiator wouldn’t have been as bad had Ford positioned the cross beam at a 45 degree angle which would force the air that’s hitting it(whilst driving) downwards aiding the cooling more,Ford could also have put bigger holes in front support bar, doing a DIY job on it would probably void warrenty and jeopardise safety, I’ve never seen a radiator mounted behind such a large sub frame before although the plus side is theirs less chance of getting your radiator bust, if hit from the front and also the handling is improved due to the radiator being closer to the front axle reducing under steer, i got these pictures off e-bay some guy has broken down a full brand new 1.6TDI MK7 Fiesta Crazy :o
kevin lancelott
Thats a strange thing to do by ford..........mine does not come on from the first turn of the key.And I have not actually heard it after I have switched off the engine unlike in my mk6. andy64
Thanks for the replies, i've tried turning the air-con off but the cooling fan still kicks in straight away after start up, must just be the design of the cooling system! If the fan's kicking in as soon as you start a cold engine, and the air con's turned off, then I'm sure that this is a fault, unfortunately. If the engine's warm when you start it, then the fan might kick in immediately - this is because the coolant heat will be concentrated at the top of the engine - due to lack of pump circulation - which is where the coolant temperature sensor's located. But if, with the a/c off, the fan runs as soon as you start a cold engine, and / or the fan runs continuously, then I'm afraid that you do have a fault (sounds like a faulty temperature sensor) which will result in over-cooling of the engine = engine not reaching operating temperature = more wear & less MPG. The only situation (with the a/c off) where my fan runs as soon as I start the engine is occasionally when the engine's already warm - & never when I start a cold engine.
Adam whitehouse
Hi I have a completely different issue, my cooling fan doesn't come on at all, I've checked the fuse and the relay which are fine, can anyone send me a picture of where I might find the thermo sensor, I've had a look but can't see it anywhere
Peter Tomlinson
I have a Ford Fiesta Titanium Econetic TDCi 2016 Try this one, fan runs on when engine is stopped. Turn ignition back on, do not start the engine. Fan will now turn off. If you now turn ignition off immediately, you will now see that the fan will come back on again. This time turn on the ignition for a little longer and then turn it off. This time the fan will stay off. Now all you ford mechanics get your heads round that one. Mashita
Hi, on ford fiesta 1.6 titanium 2012 model, it won't turn on and i can't see how temperature its doing since it doesn't show. I've changed switches but no luck so far. Any idea? And how to see or solve the problem of temporary gage?

WernerK
Hi. My Ford Fiesta fan does not want to go off at all. Even when I have parked and switched off the car. I have had to disconnect the battery.
Rara
I have a Fiesta MK 7 2008 1,25 60kW petrol and everytime I turn on engine, cooling fan starts too even if I have a/c OFF. It will turn off /cooling fan/ in like 10-15 seconds but it is always on on startup. Otherwise it is on only when I have a/c on. Is that ok ? Also I think that there is too much heat coming from around engine, because I can actually smell it lot after ride... In my service, they told me that it is ok but it was not authorised ford so I am not sure if its true. In ford service menu highest temperature of oil was like 94 celsium / 200 fahrenheit.
