Hey guys!

Just joined as of the hour! Anyway I am just curious to know if there are any secrets and/or tips to the MK7 Fiesta Zetec? Recently upgraded from the MK6 Zetec climate.

Thanks!

Pretty close to my thoughts on mk7 fezzi's lol and i still maintain that the mk7's handling is pants...........still a nice car to look at though, be gentle with it and you should be ok.

nah, dont worry about the handling,as it is the one of the best handling small cars you could buy,i have really pushed my fezzi to the limits on the race track, and there was no heavy understeer at all

all you need to watch out is the seatbelt buckle,it can easily damage the door card,as it is made out of very soft plastic

Since switching to my swift sport i've had a few hero's wanting to race lol, most notably peeps in the white mk7 zetec s flavour for some reason  I'm no boy racer by any means but i've shown a clean set of heels to the 2 i've kindly obliged to a thrash around the lanes. I still like the mk7's although i wouldn't buy another one after owning 2 and that is purely down to the handling which is even worse in the wet. Purely my own experience and opinion and i don't expect much agreement on a ford forum :D

You guys must have had really bad experiences with the mk7. My car has been nigh on perfect, nothing's broken, nothing has fell off, the fuel economy is better than I was expecting and it drives really well in all weather conditions. Granted the electric power steering doesn't have as much feel as the electro hydraulic system in the mk6, but it's still better than all of the competition in my opinion (except from maybe the mini).

studly, your problem could have been due to the fact that ford doesnt put such good tyres on their cars, mine sits on aftermarket Ultraleggera alloys with 205/40 Pirelli p zero nero tyres, and drives like a dream, grip is perfect,m8 was driving behind me in a seat ibiza fr on kw coilovers and couldnt keep up

I did switch to aftermarket alloy's with uniroyal rainsport 2 tyres, there was a bit of an improvement but at the end of the day i've moved on now and i'm loving my swift sport which has 195/45/17 goodyear eagle f1's as standard fitment and it sticks to the road like glue lol. On a sidenote was looking at a focus st this afternoon as i was bored and decided to have a scoot around the dealers lol, now that is a ford i would switch to :D

i really like the swift sport, but absolutely hate the ordinary swift, looks like crap, also drives like crap, the 1.3 92bhp feels like it has at least 10 bhp less, also the handling really sucks....

can see your point there, tried my friends tuned-up focus st,and loved it,great car

Wow some uncomplimentary posts here, are we driving the same car? my other car is a Porsche Boxster S so I think I know what a sweet handling car is and this one's a beaut, as for reliability see Which reliability survey, 5th most reliable car you can buy, Honda jazz 6th!

Some reviews here.

Car of the year 2009.

Times online 4 * - What it is, in fact, is an entirely conventional hatchback dressed up in some exceptionally pretty clothes and executed with a degree of finesse hitherto unseen in this kind of car.

Clarkson Times motoring 5*- I say again. It is a cracker. And, like the original Focus, it is a cracker to drive as well. Demonstrably better than anything else for the same sort of money. It’s a mind-blowing car. Yes, you can get a roomier Far East box for less, and you would do just that if you lived in a house made from bamboo. But you don’t. And because none of your children has ever been eaten by a crocodile, believe me, this is one of those cars that tick and tickle every one of your western boxes.

It’s sensible. It’s well priced. It’s much more comfortable and quiet than you have any right to hope for in this part of the marketplace, and because it’s made by Germans, it’s well bolted together too. But most important of all, it’s so much more than a tool. So much more than a white good. It’s fun. And as a result, I shall do an unusual thing and award it five stars.

Car magazine 5*- Well, you’re looking at the most talented supermini currently on sale, so yes, and the fact is that this Fiesta will surprise you. And it’ll continue doing that every time you drive it, because in no way does it feel like standard 1.2-litre supermini fare. Class leader, remember what the original Focus did for C segment hatches?. Now Ford’s gone and done it again for superminis, It’s stylish, sharp, chuckable, refined and spacious.

What Car 5* - The suspension is soft enough to smooth out lumpy roads – even the worst bumps in town can do nothing to upset it – yet the car is still wonderfully agile and involving. The Fiesta is one of the quietest cars in the supermini class. The engines are extremely smooth, and there’s only a hint of wind noise down the side of the car at the national limit. As for road and suspension noise, they’re so well contained that you’d swear you were in a much larger car .

Evo - It has the firm but controlled ride of a truly rigid car calibrated by people who love driving, it leans hardly at all, and both brakes and five-speed gearbox work exactly as you would like them to. This is a great small car. The as-yet- unconfirmed ST version should be a cracker.

Telegraph reliability survey taken from Which magazine .

2. Honda Jazz (2008-present) 98.2%

3. Daihatsu Sirion (2005-present) 97.5%

4. Hyundai i30 (2007-present) 96.8%

I didn't come here to have someone doing a poor attempt at sarcasm or to get into a my car is better than your car, just putting up my experiences with mk7's and i still maintain the fezzi is a fantastic car to look at and better looking than the swift but just not quite the full package imo as i didn't switch for the looks.

I think the thread is degenerating somewhat so back to the harvey's original post hopefully you'll have a better mk7 experience than me and enjoy the car :D

dont understand why your all slating the fez... its a good lil car... i got a 1.25 and i bet i could have the swift off if i had a zetec-s must of been driving against some pretty naf drivers or who tryin look after the car, saw a fez slaughter a swift on a drag tuva day... and the only problem i have had is the parts take a while to order from ford! mdont have an issue with pot holes i go across hundreds of them a-day down my road :)

The swift Sport is a good little car, slightly more power than the equivilant Fiesta, tbh the better driver would win every time, unless you have a significant BHP advantage it comes down to skill. Both cars handle well, I prefer the look of the Fiesta personally but there's a gnats !Removed! difference in performance terms.

I've raced many a hot hatch with around 200bhp in my Boxster and I've had my hands full, I like to think it's cos they were younger and had no fear of death, then again they could just be better drivers. It's skill that wins every time unless you have massively more power.

I was at a track day at Curborough awhile ago and among the cars having a sprint race were, colt raliart-fiesta st-suzuki swift and a mk7 zetec s the st anhilated everying followed by the colt, swift and last zetec s. The zetec s and swift are pretty similiar with the swift having a 8.9 sec 0-60 and the zetec s 9.6...0-60 times are a moot point anyway tbh the driver is the key anyway. The swift excels on the handling front that's why i changed cars especialy after seeing one at Curborough give a clio renaultsport a run for it's money on a few laps.

I won't have another mk7 nico purely down to my own experience but if others are happy great :D , i've been biten twice so decided to go for another make and i'm completely happy with it especialy as i got it for 11.5k with all the kit like traction control esp etc etc.

Yes but thankfully every car magazine and motoring journalist who knows what they are talking about disagrees with you.

I'm thinking you get that a lot, everyone else is wrong and you are right.

really cant see why everyone is arguing about the fiesta¨handling, because from what i have read and experienced,it handles way better than 95 percent of its rivals,i mean,it is not such a big difference between high spec models ( for example, fiesta zetec s vs. clio gt) but in lower spec, the difference is huge, the fiesta handles way better than any of the rivals,i have test driven clio tce, ibiza sc 1.4,new polo 1.4,corsa 1.4,swift 1.3,and the fiesta handles way better than all of them (should point out that the polo had sport suspension and was still handling worse than a fully standard fiesta zetec)

Hang on a minute! I was laughing at the statement, I didn't say it!

Fair enough we are all entitled to our opinions on cars but one thing that surely can't be said about the Mk7 is poor handling!!!

The swift has 5bhp more than the 1.6 Fiesta so in reality, and at the 118-123bhp range Im not sure either side should be bragging about power

At the end of the day we're all biased towards whatever car we own. Heck, if I had a Lada Riva and liked it (unlikely) I'd defend it to the hilt.

That said the mk7 is the best car I've ever owned (it's not a long list) and one of the best handling I've driven.

Ford are famous for having one of the best handling cars on the market. I don't know why the guy in the swift seems to think its a poor handling car. Couldn't of been a Fiesta he was driving....

Also, if you want to slate off a Fiesta, this is the wrong site to do it on! You are very welcome with your views, however don't expect to be liked after saying what you have said. I'm sure many of us can easily slate off your Swift so think before you post.

First off if you put your glasses on and read further up i stated i didn't expect to get agreement on a ford forum and stated my opinion only and i've only responded to other peeps post's. I've had fords for most of my driving life including ratty old fiesta's and escorts (which included an xr2i and rs turbo when i was 21-24..jeez makes me feel old now) and the 2 mk7's and it is purely my own opinion that i don't like the handling and prefer my swift and other cars, this is the first time i've gone on to hate driving a ford.

What started off as some friendly banter has degenerated into "my car is better than your car" and the keyboard warriors are coming out ....i like my car you like your's end of story tbh as it would be a very boring world if everyone drove the same car....

Now dont go blaming other people.

We all have our views but YOU were the one saying you beat Mk7 ZS's from the lights and the Mk7 handing is pants which Im sorry but whatever car you choose to like you cant say that as it is sure to provoke a reaction, say cheap plastics etc people may agree but handling that is pants ?

Love him or loath him Clarkson said of the Fez "Since the focus came along ALL Fords have a driving feel that you just done get from other cars of the same size or price, and this is no different" ALL Mk7 drivers would agree

I'm not having a go at you or anything, all i was saying is don't expect any nice replies after what you said. I fully agree with your comment about if everybody liked the same car, the world would be boring. But when you have no firm proof that the Fiesta's handling is "pants" its going to spark some harsh replies. If you can't take the replies then don't dish out the insults about peoples pride and joy.

My only proof is my year of driving 2 mk7's and i'm not getting personal or anything mark ;) pant's was probably not the best choice of word (and no i'm not backing down on my assessment ie i personaly don't like it). I can take a barrage of insults as i've got a thick skin from years of teaching lol. This will end up just going around in circles though....it should end here now tbh.....
