hi can anyone help me i have got a ford focus x reg 2ltr 16 valve. the past couple of weeks when ive been slowing down for round abouts, traffic lights, etc etc the car as been cutting out. and then sometimes it will rev to about one and a half thousand revs and then back down to tick over. on the way home from work tonight the traction control light came on and stayed on and i was only doing about 40mph. can anyone think of what might be the problem or better have had this happen to them and fixed the problem i hope someone can help thanks alot simon

you need it plugged into the computer for diagnostics mate it sounds like a possible idle control valve issue but the traction control may indivcate other faults best way to find out whats wrong is to get it plugged in

I had a similar problem years ago when I had an Escort, and it turned out to be a split in one of the air hoses.

hi, dont if your problem is solved yet...should imagine so but here goes, i had a similar prob on my 1.8 vreg an what i did was replace air filter and cleaned the sensor inside the big bore on the induction pipe where the wires connect to it on the air filter pipe. also check the area top left under bonnet, theres a vacume sensor their ..mine was cracked so replaced it and hey presto no more mis - reving. cheers.

I had a similar problem years ago when I had an Escort, and it turned out to be a split in one of the air hoses.

i had that problem with my last car a vectra that turned out to be a blocked valve the mechanic cleaned it up and it was great after.

I had the exact same problem with my 01 1.8 petrol focus and it was the idle control valve that needed changed. replaced the idle control valve and i have never had the problem since.

hi just to say thanks to everyone who replied to my post i took my car into fords and it was the idle air valve that need replacing which stopped the traction control light coming on as well and the fuel usage as gone right down now as well so result all round thanks
