DONFRAMAC
Hi all i have 1.3i endure e engine petrol in my fiesta 51 plate. Just wondering what are peoples reviews on these engines ive heared they are a old grannys engines or they are to slow but to me it pulls good and i like it also i heared they are good little engines that go on forever cheers alan They are an OHC-modded Valencia engine, but with 5 main-bearings on the crank, and a chain drive to the cam, which operates the valves via a roller/rocker/& hydraulic tappet system, The Very long Cam drive chain slaps about a bit, and is tensioned by a hydraulic capsule. With all these hydraulic capsules around, oil-changes at 6-monthly intervals is advised with oil that won't carbonise, and get a slappy chain attended to. The 8-valve engine is of long-stroke design, so both these factors mean it has a peak torque at low revs characteristic.(some people describe it as asmatic, but it can't possibly compete with the zetec engines on spinning willingly to 4500 revs. Long stroke motors major on peak torque at mid-revs.) This ROCAM engine has 10 BHP more than the old Valencia based 1300 pushrod unit, which only had 3 crank bearings, and the tappet noise is gone. It is a good motor. 69 BHP is as good as the Austin Maestro 1.3 A+ motor had. The hydraulic capsule most in need of clean oil is the chain tensioner one, and it is easily removed from the rear of the cylinder-head for cleaning/ or renewal. Unlike the 16 valve engines, this ROCAM can be overhauled I.E., rebored/ crank reground, which is not engineered into the alloy 16V twin-cam engines. -------------------------------------------------- The modernised OHC version has the spark-plugs to the rear of the valve rocker-cover, along with the ignition coil, and exhaust manifold. The plastic inlet manifold is in full view at the front of the engine, to the right of the power steering pump. The rocker-cover should be marked "DURATEC" THE older 59 BHP push-rod motor was the "ENDURA-E", with screw & nut adjustable tappets. It was well known for noise, especially in cheap versions of the Escort, after the CVH motor was removed, and the new size 1.4 CVH fitted to better-spec Escorts, with better soundproofing, etc. This quieter 1.3 DURATEC motor was fitted to the Mk 6 Fiesta briefly, while the 16 valve zetec motor could be re-engineered (valve-gear/oil-ways, etc), and there was some overlap in availability after the 1.25 Zetec/DURATEC/SIGMA, came back into the Fiesta lineup.
