Focus Dashboard Secret (Trick)

Hi, Had an issue recently with my focus (see link here http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16572) so I saw this post and thought I'd try out the diagnostics mode on instrument panel. I have a ford focus 2008 titanium with the Red LED digital display.

Did it all and worked fine - no DTC's came up - however when I was scrolling through all the othe data I noticed my engine temp said 114 C and then having driven it a few miles I did the test mode again and it showed the temp as 135 C.

Is this figure the actual recorded temperature of the engine?

Excuse me for being thick but what does the temperature dial next to the fuel gauge on the instrument cluster measure because the needle on this is in the centre between 60 and 120?

thanks

Gregg

it works on my 2006 focus. I have no dtc codes to report but I still have the problem where my trunk open light refuses to go away once I switch on my headlights. Seems I have some kind of short that gets triggered when the headlights or park lights get enabled.

I had the same problem in my Mk1 Focus, It flickered but only when the headlights were on. Checked the latch sensors etc on all doors and trunk but still happened. Took the bulb out of the warning light in the end as I do a lot of motorway driving and it was very distracting.

likely a faulty sensor 135 c you would be in the red fan cut in is around 104 either that or a faulty engine fan should have come on before 135

Yeah same here. You can get used ones anywhere between £20-40 on ebay but the only thing is you will need to take it to a specialist or Ford to get the mileage on the digital dash adjusted to match the actual mileage of your car but it is not a legal requirement (but I recommend you do it lol) or you can get a brand new one off the Ford Parts UK website for just over £60 which isn't too bad actually.

Liam

just the cluster going into test mode a non silver calcium battery can cause it other wise as said its a new dash cluster some get worse some dont

Has anyone managed to get this trick to work with a Keyless Ignitiion "power start button"? Focus 2010

I tried , holding the reset button on the trip lever , "no trip reset on center dash" and starting the engine with the button continued holding for about 12 hrs and still nothing .lol.

Tried placing the "key" in and doing the same , nothing happens apart from reseting the trip. BTW key does not turn so can't get II and III positions.

*EDIT* - Got it to work.

On keyless power start.

1)hold trip reset button in.

2)Short press half way down of the power button , displays II position lights.

3)Continue to hold trip reset button.

4)Menu comes up and click trip reset button to scroll through .

no normal running temp when the thermostat starts to open is arond 90-93 degrees foci runs normal at over 100 degrees the gauge means nothing it just says its right during the winter it will sit in the middle but if yiou check the temp its only 88 degrees the temp is the temp measured at the head

That's great. Just tried it now worked like a charm. I didn't discover any faults which is good since my car is second hand and I'm not sure how is cared for her.

Hi,

welcome to the forum,

for best results, start a nw thread for this topic in the fiesta owners section,

your Fiesta is a Mk7 mate the Mk8 hasen't been designed yet, the Mk7.5 facelift is in the showrooms now.

the only way i can see to fix this is to contact ford for a ecu remap, to either bond with the gauges

or delete a file from the ecu so it doesnt communicate with the gauges for the immobiliser .

Hello all ,

I have found some info out a few months ago about my focus i got it off a ST170 SITE so credit does go to them but i will say it here anyways

*******WARNING DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU LIKE TO KEEP A CHECK ON MILEAGE AFTER EVERY REFILL LIKE ME AS THIS WILL RESET THE TRIP METER******************

1.GET IN FOCUS

2.PUT KEY IN STEERING LOCK OFF

3.HOLD DOWN TRIP RESET BUTTON ON INSTRUMENT PANEL

4.TURN IGNITION ON AND START ENGINE

5.NOW YOUR CAR IS IN SELF DIAGNOSTIC MODE

YOU CAN NOW CHECK IF THE CAR HAS ANY DTC CODES IN THE MEMORY ,CHECK ALL GUAGES ,CHECK ALL INSTRUMENTAL PANEL LAMPS EVEN ONES U DONT USE E.G. ABS GLOW PLUG LIGHT ON PETROL AND AUTO GEARBOX LAMP YOU CAN ALSO SEE YOUR REV METER IN DIGITAL

Give this a go its quite cool and also dtc codes are usefull if you know what to do with them try googling dtc library there used to be a program you could get but i dont know if its avaliable anymore

Thanks

Matt :D

Thanks for the info, I will try it

I use thi trick a lot

to see speed and fuel level

I found one document about it in one brazilian forum of ford's

Self-Diagnostic Mode - Instrument Cluster

1. To enter the instrument cluster self-diagnostic mode simultaneously depress and hold the tripmeter reset button then turn the ignition switch to position II or III.

2. Release the tripmeter reset button when TEST is displayed on the LCD. This will take between 5 and 8 seconds.

3. The instrument cluster will enter the gauge sweep test.

4. To navigate to the following tests while in self-diagnostic mode depress the RESET button to move to the next test.

5. The self-test is deactivated when the ignition is turned to the OFF position.

Note:

Additional tests are available after number #.16 but are not useful for diagnostics.

Note:

Later vehicles had a "cost reduced" cluster that had a different Engineering Test Mode layout. These came in about 03-53 reg, and can be distinguished by only the symbol lighting up in the tell tale rather than the whole lot. (LEDs rather than bulbs).

These clusters used stepper motors for the gauges rather than the air cored ones and did not have a Gauge Sweep test?
