Titanium_Ian
Well this morning i was driving to work and had to stop in a traffic jam on the way. Another car stopped behind me then all of a sudden i hear this bang and then i get another bang on the back of my car which pushed me onto the car in front of me. Man i was angry. I only had my fiesta for 3 weeks now and this happens. So i get out of the car dredding to look at the damage. The car behind me was a peugout 206. The bumber on my fiesta was well crushed with the peugout bumber nearly all the way in. The car that caused the accident was a 1 year old opel corsa. In all it was 4 cars. After the police came they told us to move the cars aside. When i drove the car off everthing seemed normnal but the peugout 206 had a towing hook on the front and this pearced the plastic bit where my reverse sensors are. It came off as i drove and two of the sensors where left hanging. The bumper support metal bar is ruined as well its all bent. The paint on the bumber cracked from many places but luckily the metal body seems to be untouched. The front had minor damage some scratches and the chrome is scratched from one place so im gonna have to get the whole thing changed as i want it brand new condition like it was. Anyway as you can tell im not happy at all. Can anyone tell me if there is a fuse that disables the reverse sensors???? so i can unplug it and put some insulating tape around the cable and terminals cause im worried that its going to rain tomorrow and i dont want to short sometin in the car electrical systems. jmurray01
I'm so sorry to hear that. I know how angry I would be if somebody hit my 13 Year old Fiesta let alone a 3 week old one! If you're insured you will be covered, but still, what a stupid driver. How hard is it to see a car infront of you and... What's the word ? Hmm... BRAKE!! Really sorry to hear that. Trust me when I say I understand your pain... :( My car's back in the garage today to finish off the details they didn't quite get right the first time. The wiring diagram says the fuse is number F8 (10Amp) in the central junction box (behind the glove box). But please check the owners manual for yourself first. And yes, taping up the bits is a good idea - though the garage may well replace the whole thing. I hope you get it all sorted out quickly. sparticus5
I had a very similar thing happen to me some years ago - it was snowing and the car behind slid in to me. The result was I was pushed forward and hit the car in front which had a rear tow hook and like you, it pierced my bumper. Sounds like your insurance will sort everything out, hopefully the guy that caused the accident was insured and you'll get your excess returned. Word of warning though - double check how they intend to repair your car. Accidents happen so I wasn't overly annoyed at what happened to my car. However when I saw the estimate to repair my car I nearly hit the roof. Thing is bumpers ain't that expensive - all the garage had to do was paint a brand new bumper and job done. But no, they wanted to use filler and repair the broken bumper. I can't be 100% certain of this but I suspect they'd rather have done the repair because it involved more man hours / more profit for them. I contacted my insurer and they agreed a brand new bumper was the best option. When you get your car repaired, just make sure they return the car to the way it was before the accident - ie no patched up bodywork. Titanium_Ian
Thank you all for the help and replies :) I spoke to my insurance many times allready. This morning i spoke to the manager at the insurace and agreed to go and have a chat with him next week. This will give enough time for the traffic wardens to file the report about the accident and from there we will have a better idea how to proceed. I will definately have to change the whole bumper at the back and the support beam as this was bent with the impact from the towing hook on the front of the peugout 206. Also someone told me to have the reverse sensors checked out because they work with some magnetism thingy and they go dead easily when hit hard. I might have to pay my access of 125 euros to have the front bumper completly changed to new as the law states that you have to keep a certain distance from the car in front. Yes this will usually invole me loosing my no claims but since its a new car and the insurance has just been done the first time i have been told it wont affect my no claims. Thanks everyone for the help. I will take the fuse out later as well cause when i put it into reverse the noise is complety different now. Hopefully i will get my car lookin brand new again :|
