Ford Focus Servicing?

I've had my Focus TDCi 55 plate for nearly a year now and covered about 15K miles.

The mileage when I had it was 81K and is now 96K.

It didn't have any service history when I bought it so I had the following done to it:

oil replaced

New oil filter

New air filter

New front and rear brakepads

New brake fluid

Aircon anti-bacterial cleans

New alternator/battery

4 new tyres

What needs doing about this time? I was thinking of getting the oil changed anyway, but unsure about anything else, e.g. spark plugs?? - I'm not very mechanically minded

Thanks in Advance

Many would dismiss this idea but the bulbs for lights etc should be checked. Check tyre wear as per indicator on the threads, and look for uneven wear patterns (too much wear on one side of tyre). That could be caused by a braking imbalance such as warping brake discs or suspension geometry misalignment. Check your spare wheel is alright and at the correct pressure.

Thanks sophie09 - will do. I'll take it to a garage to get the oil and oil filter changed. I assume it's simple to check the air and pollen filters?

H3lly - I check the bulbs and tyres regularly and they are fine. Not the spare wheel tho - needs checking.

Hi,

Not sure on your model but, what about the cam belt (if yours has one)?

Cheers

I agree with top banana

If you haven’t changed the cam belt I would definitely get this done, ford recommend every 100,000 and haynes recommend every 70,000 I think.

More than likely it hasn’t been done as it’s a large job and kind of expensive. However if you don’t get it done and the belt snaps, it can (and probably will) cause catastrophic engine failure as the engine continues to run when the cams and valves have stopped. It’s really not worth pushing the most out of a cam belt because it might cost you the car :P

If you get it done ensure that the garage also replaces the tensioner and pulleys because it’s usually the tensioner that goes snapping the belt

Is the cam belt the timing belt? My focus has a chain so doesn't need changing I think..

yeh the cam belt is the timing belt, what yr is the car and what engine do you have? if you do have a chain it should still be inspected at 90k, although chains are much more reliable then belts, they can still stretch and break, plus the tensioner can still go causing them to break :P

It a Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi - I'll ask the garage to check the chain and tensioner too.

Thanks.

For my Fiesta I wouldn't let it go past 3,000 miles without an oil change let alone 15,000 miles!

What you should do:

Change oil & filter

Change Coolant

Check air filter (if it's dirty get it changed)

Also check the spare tyre for excessive wear (should be changed every 7 years regardless of use, keep that in mind as in a couple of years time you'll need it changed)

Rotate Tyres (move rear tyres to front - front to rear)

That's about it!

i change my oil every 6,000, ford service intervals are 12,500. I personally think thats too long
