Hi anybody got any ideas on the problem we have??

car is a 52 plate focus

when you are at around 60 mph you can feel the car shake through the floor its worse on the passenger side front footwell its like the body of the car is shaking not the wheels

have checked the front tyres and no problems no bulges etc and plenty of tread also tyre pressure fine

there is no shake from the steering at all....never come across this before i have steering shake in other cars and its been wheel balance etc but since the steering wheel is shake free im a bit lost ...any ideas???? thanks

could be many things ide have it checked out could be a bent driveshaft you or the mrs clipped any kerbs etc recently? the alloys are very easy to buckle a big enough pot hole will easily do it so have the wheels checked for balance and ask the guy if the alloy is buckled could alsoi be the gearbox to driveshaft oil seal gone or the bearing has gone on the wheel bent or worn lower arm deformed ie not round tyre ide suggest having it looked at just to be sure its not a safety issue

although i doubt this is your cause, ive got a wheel bearing on the front passenger side thats FUBARRED to say the least, very noisey. i can feel that vibrating through the floor slightly.

stef has got a point though it could be more than 1 thing causing it a wheel bearing on its way out and say a buckled wheel will do the trick

hi

have had this twice on my 02 focus estate

first time - flat spot on rear tyre near side didnt make any vibration till 65mph the violent shudder in floor and seat and not through the sterring wheel.

second time - off side rear tyre lost patch of tread violent shudder in floor and seat - above 50mph

had a bearing go in back as well but its a knocking rather than a shudder.

my guess is its coming from the rear of the car, if its in the floor. check rear tyres, wheels, and bearings.

hope this helps

look at both sides of the car for different hight, also leaks or worn bushes, and dont forget to bounce the front for the rebound do both sides, if there is a fault and you need to change the strut, change both sides at the same time, to keep the car in balance.

next time you get in the car. check alloys for balance weights (both sides) there buggers for coming off in car washes with the wheel washing brushes. also have a passenger sit in the back both sides and front you should be able to pinpoint which end its coming from and what side, have the rear wheels spun on balancing machine. could be something as simple as egg shaped tyre. i couldn't believe the shudder i was getting from just a slight worn spot on the tyre. i only noticed it from across the workshop as the tyre was spinning at eye level from a distance. just a slight wobble and that was the second time we spun it we had already balanced it.

hope you get it sorted. i know how annoying a shudder can be.
