Spare Wheel Mk7 Titanium

Hi

Anybody an ideas about this. I have no spare wheel for my MK7 Fiesta, I bought it second hand and it only has the inflation kit. It is a Titanium with 16" option alloys. The tyre size is 195/45/R16.

This weekend I had the problem of a large shard of metal in the tyre causing the tyre to go totally flat, I didn't realise this shard of metal was there till I tried to pump the tyre up (not using the inflation kit), only to take the air compressor off and could hear the air rushing out. This is when I found the metal shard and massive hole in my tyre. Rather that using the inflation kit as I was not even sure this would seal it, I had to take the wheel off and find someone who could take me to a garage and find a tyre. Only one tyre available at £97 but I needed it doing as I needed the car.

What I want is a spare wheel - Ford say they don't do 16" steel wheels and it would have to be another alloy. That with the proper jack and retaining bolt would come to about £200, and am not sure that even includes a tyre.

Any ideas about a way round this?

The jack and retaining bolt I can get probably get from a scrap yard, any ideas if a wheel would be available from there? Or where I can get a 16 steel wheel? Or maybe even a really cheap alloy.

Thanks

A 16 inch wheel would not fit in your spare wheel well. The correct size for a spare is 175/65r14. We sell these with jack wheelbrace and foam insert with tyre aswell for £165.63. I hope this helps

The spare wheel (option) that Ford supply with the MK7 is a 175/65/14

Here's a second hand one on eBay My link a bit pricey in my opinion, its a MK6 spare but they are the same as a MK7.

If you source a larger than 14" spare wheel you may have problems finding a genuine ford bolt long enough to secure it in the wheel well, thats if you can get the wheel to fit in the wheel well.

I brought my Fiesta brand new and it came with the tyre destroyer foam, I quickly sourced from eBay a brand new 14" spare wheel, jack and bolt for £45.

Just for clarification.....

You do not need a 16" steel wheel as a spare.

The alloys are low profile and the actual diameter of a 14" steel wheel with an ordinary tyre is more or less the same as a 16" alloy with low profile tyre. In fact ride quality improves although you cannot take corners as fast.

There are lots of bargains on fleabay, so find yourself a nice cheap 14" steel wheel and tyre and it will get you out of trouble until such time as you can have a puncture repaired or the tyre replaced.

I have 16" 7 spoke alloys which I use in summer and change them over to 14" steel wheels in winter. I carry a 14" steel spare and a can of spray stuff.

Thanks for all your help, I did wonder if a 14" with a normal tyre would do, the ford dealer told me not though :o

I actually know someone who works for a scrapyard so will see if they can find anything.

Hi I have a Fiesta new in 2012 and I have had it for just about 18months, in that time I have had six Ford wheels buckle on me, I had heard that the Ford supplied wheels are crap so now I have changed them for four Fox FX004 silver alloy wheels and that was £300 for all four with my original tyres fitted. The original tyre and wheel WILL fit in the wheel well but the foam insert won't fit into that, tyres are around £46:50 online at Asda Tyres for the cheapest option fully fitted, balanced and valves at a Halford service centre nearest to you, no online payment you just order it and pay Halfords. I am going to use the only wheel that isnt buckled for my spare with the Asda cheapest option tyre. The links to Asda and Motorsport wheels are as follows:-

https://www.asdatyres.co.uk/195-45-16?range=budget

http://www.alloywheelsmanchester.com/

Steve at Motorsport wheels will do you an FX004 alloy for around £65 and may even do a tyre as cheap as Asda too if you ask nicely. Give them a bit of thought and you could save a lot of money.

had a fiesta zetec S for over 10 years and sold off cheap ( 65K miles ) as fuel pump issues. bought new mk 7 basic model but found it has no spare wheel only one of those stupid foam filling things nobody wants. ( always once I suppose)

looking to buy a full size spare from a breakers and a jack and brace. no joy around here so far. see Ford still treating its customers with the customer is always wrong attitude going back to when H Ford insisted we can only buy black cars.

such a huge demand for a spare wheel ,why not offer it as an option? surely many of us would pay bit extra for it. I cannot see point of having to change a wheel TWICE. after getting a puncture. despite ford saying no need as tyres only get a puncture every trillion miles etc . I suspect its more about cost saving to them and lowering weight get higher fuel figures. Here I get a puncture regularly around once every 18 months on average. (essex so maybe a reason)

maybe owners club can set up with a supplier to offer these ? maybe a collective discount for new ? and decent price for second hand etc

I have 17 inch alloys and a full size alloy spare. This fits the wheel well without the foam packing, dumped it. Ford price for a bare alloy is around £200, Tyre about £90. On Gumtree I found a alloy and tyre for £60. Ths fits but is about 25mm higher than the boot floor, but is not a problem. Its out there if you look for it.

The tyre sealant option is useless, once you use it your tyre cannot be repaired, A proper size spare is essential.

You can get a spare wheel, it is a £100 option for a 14" x 5.5 steel wheel.

I have a full size 15" steel spare in my Fiesta (which I bought for my previous fiesta & just transfered it when I traded it in) even though my current fiesta has 16" alloys. It fits the wheel well only a slightly lifting the boot floor (approx 10mm max).

Spare is a 195 50 R15 & my alloys are 195 50 R16, so only slight difference.

The 195/45/16 wheel should fit in the wheel well without the foam box. I had a tyre in there and the bits floating around and if the tyre fits, i know the entire wheel+tyre will.

You'll just have to find a suitable place for the other bits to fit. puncture repair kit, tow bar, etc...

I When I ordered my car I included a spare wheel from the options list. As Mickr says it was £100. I wouldn't buy a car without one.

I have a plastic bowl in my spare wheel well, a square cut out of the base to fit over the jack clamping plate. The jack is secured with a jack fixing screw. In addition I have a coiled tow strop....extendable wheel brace, the tyre inflater less sealant. hi viz waistcoat and a few other small odds and ends. The wheel sits comfortably over the bowl and when removed all the items are secure in the bowl.
