Fiesta Mk7 Update

Hi

I've now had my new Fiesta 5 door Zetec for 26 days and although there are no big issues with it and I am extremely happy with the car and I'm pleased that I chose colorado red, there are a few 'niggly little issues' which I will detail here in the hope that the more experienced Fiesta owners can solve for me.

1. I've just run down my first full tank of fuel until the fuel light came on. At that point I had done 358 miles and the average mpg shown by the trip meter was 45.2. The tank holds 42 litres and when I filled up, it took 39.22 litres and when I worked the mpg out, it was 41.83, which I think is quite reasonable. After filling the tank again, I reset the trip meter and over the last 24 hours, the average mpg is 40.2 mpg. I have been driving the same route to and from work - 90% mway and 10% town driving.

2. I've connected my iPhone 3GS to the car using bluetooth only and have created a phonebook with my contacts but I'm unsure on exactly how to make/receive calls using 'voice' and don't know if I'm doing it properly or, if there is a fault. The 'owner's handbook' states that you can accept a call by pressing the 'mode button' on the laft hand stalk but when a call comes in, I pressed the mode button and car display came up with a window showing 'voice recognition' and asked me to choose 'phone', radio, cd etc. If I then choose 'phone', I can then make a call by choosing a name/number from my contacts and I know that you can use the seek up/down, up/down and ok buttons on the steering wheel or the audio unit to accept and end a call.

So my question is, why I am not able to answer a call or end a call by pressing the 'mode button' each time. I was in a call this afternoon and when we had finished, I pressed the mode button and it just brought up the 'voice recognition' window again. As far as I am concerned, the mode button just brings up voice recognition and your options to choose phone, radio and aux. Can any other Fiesta owners who have bluetooth with voice control and usb please tell me if what I'm experiencing is correct and if so, why does the handbook state that you can answer/end a call by pressing the mode button each time?

3. When I drive off in the morning, there is a niggly little low pitched noise as I'm slowly moving off and I only started hearing this after about four days. I have no clue what it is but I guess I'll mention it when the car goes in for it's 1500 mile check.

That's it folks and all in all, not much to write home about but I would like feedback on 1 and 2 please.

Thanks, BHeart

I'm not sure what the problem is here? MPG is a variable and with the cold weather recently you're bound to be using more fuel. If you reset the MPG counter and floor it your average MPG will be very low, however you could drive like a saint for the rest of the tank and increase it. What I'm trying to say is don't believe the computer and keep doing what you're doing by brimming the tank and working it out manually!

Hi BHeart

With regards to the voice control you say you are pressing the button on the left stalk. To me it sounds as if you are pressing the voice activation button which is on the left stalk especially as the "voice recognition" then appears on the display.

To answer a call use the small 'M' button which is in the middle of the mini audio controls on the left side of the actual steering wheel.

Also when you have an incoming call if you look at the bottom of the display, there are options along the bottom, one of which is 'answer', press the corresponding button of the 4 which appear in 2's either side of the door lock button & hazard warning light on the dashboard.

Hi zetec bevvie

Thank you for you reply concerning the voice control on my Fiesta Mk7.

With regard to the 'Voice Control and Mode Button' (P179 of Owner's Handbook) which, as you say, is on the left stalk, yes that is the button I was referring to and I think I said as much in my initial post. Having used this button many times over the last few days, I am aware that amongst other things, this brings up a 'voice recognition' display. If you turn to page 179 of the 'Owner's Handbook' and look under "Telephone Controls", you will see that it states the following:

"Incoming calls can be accepted by pressing the MODE button once". "Press the button again to end the call".

But pressing this button does not accept or end any calls and that is what my query is; pressing the button is supposed to allow the user to accept and end calls but it does not, so I'm trying to establish if the same button in ALL other Fiesta Mk7 cars responds in the same way as it does in my car?

In an effort to establish how other Fiesta owner's deal with 'hands free voice calls', I'm going to start another thread which will explain how I make, answer and end 'voice calls', and I would like to know if my way is any different from the way in which other owner's make hands free voice calls. Your input would be welcome.

By the way, I forgot to ask you if you know how to clear the missed, dialled and recent calls lists on the car's system. I can view them on my display but as far as I can see, there is no option to clear them.

Thanks, BHeart

Just gone and sat in my car to work this out.

The problem is you're using the wrong button. I agree the manual isn't clear and refers to the voice button on the indicator stalk as the mode button at some points. This is incorrect. The mode button is the 'M' on the steering wheel that controls volume & skip. Pressing 'M' when you have an incomming call will answer the phone for you.

+1 This is true. It's the M button on the steering wheel :)

I thought the M button was equivalent to the M button in an M5... which would up it from 82 to 507bhp. Shame.

Hi iNath

Many thanks for your response which now clears the problem up for me. :)

zetec bevvie touched on the mini controls on the steering wheel and you have now also confirmed this. So there appears to be a slight info error for the function of the voice control button in the manual.

Now that I know how to accept and end a voice call, how do you make a hands free voice call?

The only way that I know is to actually press the voice control button on the left stalk and then say 'dial name' for contacts in the system phonebook or, 'dial mobile name' for contacts actually on your mobile.

All I'd like to know is how to clear the missed, dialled and recent calls lists on the car's system. I see them on my centre display but as far as I can see, there is no option to clear them.

My thanks to everyone who contributed.
