my mk 1 focus is whining when I turn the wheel so I check the fluid and it was nearly empty when the car was started the fluid was thick and black and there was a leak coming from the back off the engine I think it might be the steering rack but I am not to sure but would like to hear what everyone else thinks. I have also put in wynns power steering stop leak and filled with 1 litre of power steering fluid and it is !Removed! out the bottom still any ideas thanks

Check the hose going to the power steering reservoir is not loose. There may be evidence of fluid of the timing belt cover, check it hasn't leaked onto the belt as it could cause damage to it.
