Involves uploading a modified file to the car. Not something Joe Bloggs can do unfortunately.

They should have put an option in the stereo menu to do it.

Extra turbo lag LOL, i have noticed a real lack of power in comparison to my 58 plate tdci zetec s, so the likelyhood of further lack of power is laughable.

Had the Econo thing fitted this saturday so will see what comes back from that as i am pretty sure my driving style is pretty economical as it is.

I've not noticed an actual lack of power and if I give it the beans it pulls well. It's just under light throttle or if in the wrong gear pulling away there's a bit of lag before the turbo spins up.

Just to add my happ'ny worth - I had a 2009 Mk 7 1.6 TDCI with the 90ps engine and could easily get 60mpg even on short jouneys. Admittedly, this was driving with a light right foot. What is important though, I realised, is the time of year as I noticed that the air temperature had a dramatic effect on the mpg. In really cold weather (around 0c and below) I had trouble getting above 50mpg which is exactly what you would expect on short journeys when the engine doesn't reach normal operating temperature. This effect seems more pronounced with diesels. Don't be fooled by the heater warming up - the engine probably hasn't !

Overall I was very pleased with that engine, it had loads of torque and in such a light car was very good.

I'm showing 53mpg average driving hard, when not doing so, I can hit around 58. No mods or anything.

Just had my Econo report back, 100% on gear shifting and speed and slight room for improvement on anticipation. A whole saying of £70 a year on fuel if i improve on anticipation. Well only getting 50MPG while driving almost as perfectly to economical as i can says the MPG is pretty crap and that they are miles from the figures published by ford.

Im only averaging between 45 and 48 mpg no matter how i drive. The engine is really flat in low revs and has started to judder on hard acceleration. Im really dissapointed! I have had the car for a year from new and it has done 12500 miles. Its going in for its first service next week so I hope I see a difference.

I'm only getting 51 no matter how I drive I have a mk7 tdci 95Ps version I am just getting to first service so that should boost it a bit as it has creeped up from 48 in the past 6 months

mine judders when I accelerate too, not really sure what it could be but will bring it up at its first service along with the rest of the issues its got at the moment..

Mines booked in for first service on Thursday. I have told them about the juddering and poor mpg. I also told them about the turbo lag I am suffering when pulling away from a junction or roundabout!

I will let everyone know the outcome.

Had the car serviced last Thursday. They updated the parameters on the engine management module after I had explained the issues I was having and I must say the difference is amazing!!! The car is much more responsive and seems to have a lot more torque low down in the rev range. The flat spot I had when pulling away has gone and the car is a lot nicer to drive. I am also getting better MPG and the technician said it may get better again the more I drive it with the new parameters. :-)

hi-to all ,Have been reading all or most of the posts regarding the lack of mpg from the tdci fiesta ,some say its the new engine you have- others -you drive to hard-take this drive test. But we all bought this car A-£20 road tax B-because we were led to believe it would do 67mpg as well.I myself with 40yrs plus driving did

How wrong can we be,ive had all sorts of cars and makes and must admit what the specs said the mpg was i mostly got so i assumed the fiesta would be no different-how wrong can one be -Now for my stats

ford fiesta 1.6tdci 2010 90bph- all conditions-52-53 mpg driving with least throttle as possible and gear change in 5 by 30mph.My ability to drve is not in question or how i drive for there is to many of us with the same issue.the prob is what can we do about it -does anybody have the answer -can we ford fiesta owners be helped-we all seem to hit a brick wall,i went to ford with this issue and was told nothing wrong -can i have my car remapped -no only if you have a fault and then you would have to pay.So even the warranty does not cover it -possibly not.have we hit a dead end.

Hi All,

I have now owned a Fiesta 1.6TDCI 11-reg since Dec 2011, and being unimpressed with the MPG, I have been watching this forum closely.

I have nothing really to add, that will help anyone, other than my car has had the latest PCM update and been in the dealership several times, and I still only ever get avg 54.5MPG on an 18mile mostly Motorway and A road journey. Very disappointing, especially when compared to our other car, a VW Touran 2.0TDI 2008. On the same journey to work I get avg 53MPG with the VW, compared with the published figures: Urban 37.2, Extra-urban 54.3, Combined 47.1, it makes the Fiesta look really poor.

I contacted Ford customer services, but after much backwards and forwards, they say there is nothing they can do, but I could write to Ford technical for their response.

If anyone gets any further with this, I'd like to hear about it. perhaps it's time to write in to watchdog :D

The problem with claimed MPG stats is they are best case scenario so i never believe them.

Most stats are calculated on an engine test bed under optimum conditions in a factory.

My advice is to just enjoy the driving experience and accept that cars will rarely match their fuel economy hype.

Fiesta Zetec S with 18,000 and I have lack of power and the mpg dropped to 39-41mpg on local runs, and lucky to get 50mpg on a run. Dropped it into Ford, and stated that this was normal and to be expected. I refuted this, as I have fairly constant driving habits routes etc. I would normally be getting early 50-52mpg local and 60's on a run (even had 70mpg).

The consistent lack of power and juddering and consistent poor MPG I now have is terrible against a clear real world benchmark that I have. After a day at Ford, they claim everything is fine. I am monitoring, and it will be sent back in a couple of weeks, if it's no better.

I am collating thoughts from this thread, as it seems I may have to tell them how to fix the vehicle. Ford Halifax is my local. Anyone had any experience with these guys?

the mpg improves significantly following its first service when the ECU is reprogrammed to take into account the engine wear. mine went from about 55mpg to 62mpg within a day

also, the 5 speed gearbox isnt best suited to the motorway - but then the fiesta isn't really designed to be a long distance cruiser. i find i get the same economy on the motorway or on the A roads, but the A roads are much more fun :)

I've had my 1.6 TDCI (95) for nearly 5 months now and the MPG has settled down as follows:

Day to day commuting (only 7 miles each way, mostly town, little bit of dual carriageway) = 54MPG

Weekend driving (still mostly town, plus a bit of motorway, less traffic) = 57MPG

Long runs (trips away, mostly dual carriageway/motorway, some A-roads) = 65MPG

Overall average = 57MPG (or 85% of Manufacturer Combined MPG)

Looking back through my car history I generally get about 85% of what the manufacturer claims for combines MPG. Based on Ford's combined figure of 67MPG I am bang on what I have achieved from most of my other cars.

All of the above is recorded from November-March on a pretty cold engine for all or most of the journeys so I'm hoping to see some increase on these averages as the weather improves.

Hi Graham,

Yeah I just bought the fiesta Zetec S 1.6 TDCI had it a week now and i'm getting 60 mpg on mostly A & B raods and a bit of motorway, I am driving it gently and chaging gear when the green light goes on to say I should change up. Try going easier on the gas peddle mate, that might be why, how fast are you driving LOL.

Hello, just some feedback on my experience, just had my 1.6TDCI DPF zetec S 1st service, and asked for the ecu to be updated, which the dealer confirmed had been done when I collected the car, oh the car has done just over 11k. Before the service I was getting around 51mpg, thats driving normally, a fair bit of motorway at 70, generaly following the speed limits for whatever type of road I'm on etc. Anyway post service, reset the average mpg computer and after one tank the mpg was amazingly 51mpg! If I stick to 65mph on the motorway I can get it upto around 55mpg. So I guess hopefully a few more thousand miles plus the warmer weather will help. Mind you the missus has a pre DPF mk7 Zetec S TDCI which gets 64mpg easily driving normally, no matter what the ambient temp. So much for improvment on the newer model then!. There's nothing particulary wrong with my car, it drives perfectly, so will see what happens over the next few months. Either that or I need to find somewhere to work which involves going downhil both there and back to mach her. :D

I took mine in, as I now get 39mpg-42mpg constantly. Before I would be getting about 51mpg on same journeys, and even had a 70mpg. Lucky to ever get 50mpg. This is light driving and not using a leaded right boot.

Dealer found nothing wrong and just quoted booklet figures. I argued that my driving and routes are pretty constant and habitual and I have seen consistency for 12 months. The young know it all at the desk didn't really get it, and referred back to quoted figures.

I will be monitoring and if there's no improvment, it will be dumped on their front door.

What speed do you drive at on motorways and A-roads? As the Fiesta is a 5-speed rather than a 6-speed it's MPG will drop once you get over 60-ish.

when compared to our other car, a VW Touran 2.0TDI 2008. On the same journey to work I get avg 53MPG with the VW, compared with the published figures: Urban 37.2, Extra-urban 54.3, Combined 47.1, it makes the Fiesta look really poor.

Presumably this is a 6-speed? Also, you will tend to find that smaller cars are geared primarily for economy around town whereas cars such as the Touran will be better geared for higher speeds.

I contacted Ford customer services, but after much backwards and forwards, they say there is nothing they can do, but I could write to Ford technical for their response.

If anyone gets any further with this, I'd like to hear about it. perhaps it's time to write in to watchdog

Firstly, as it says in all the guides and brochures, MPG figures are not guaranteed. This will be Ford's first defence.

Secondly, I have owned 36 cars in my life and only two of these ever matched, on average, the manufacturer's claimed combined MPG. The others have varied from between 70%-90% of the claimed figures. The average is 85% of the claimed combined MPG. If the Fiesta claimed combined MPG is 67MPG then I would expect 57MPG as my average which is bang on what I am getting.

As far as I am concerned, the Fiesta's claimed MPG figures are as "accurate" as any other manfacturer.
