Engine Cut Out

I have been having trouble with my Mk1 focus stalling under braking at speeds of up to about 20mph. I have found that even with the clutch fully depressed the car can still stall under braking.

The only clues I have are that the battery warning light comes on just before the stall and the car will only act like this during cold temperatures. The fault disappears over the summer.

Any suggestions as to the cause would be great!
