Mk1 Key Fob Not Working

hi there, i am having quite a problem here, i have a mk1 ford mondeo 1996 petrol engine, it has central locking, i have to key sets with two door unlocking fobs which work with infra red waves. So, in the summer one of the fobs just stopped working, i dont realy know why, and i never bothered with the cause, i just switched the battery and because it still did not work i carried on to use the second fob. Now one day i dropped my keys on the ground and now the other set does not work too, the red light indicator on the fob signals, but nor the doors nor the alarm can be turned down. I had to use the little key to turn off the alarm totally, the little box is under the hood, now every time i turn the alarm on again it starts signal really loud :) But even with the alarm turned off completely the car still does not start...

I read that maybe i can reprogramm the key fobs, because of the battery change i did, but i can not do it because i have turned off the alarm and if i do turn it on, it starts to scream. i dont know what to do.

I hope that i explained the situation to my best, but be sure to ask for elaborations. english is not my native language..

thank you

Hi Mishax

with the alarm turned off the car is immobilized so will not start.

if you reconnect the alarm(you will have to to reprogram the keys) it will reset itself(turn siren off) after about 3 minutes.

that is when you need to sort your key out.

take a look at attachments see if they are any help.

tom

p.s. sounds like you may have damaged the remote so you may have to replace fob.

thank you for your reply

i didnt realy get the reconnect the alarm point, how do i do this, do you mean that i need to try to reprogramm the fob while the siren is on? or do i do it by disconnecting some wires?

another question:

i am realy full of this alarm and immobilizer stuff, can i just turn the alarm and imobilizer off, i dont realy need them at all, i can simply unlock the car with the key, the most important thing is to start her? :)

last question: how to search for mk1 key fob, i am struggling to find it on eBay...

sry for the load of question, finally i find someone knowledgeable :)

Hi Mishax

yes you need to have the alarm connected while reprograming the key.

as for disconnecting alarm immobilizer. i dont know how you would do this.

as for key fob again i do not know perhaps someone will come on and advise you.

i will have a look and let you know if i see one.

Thanks for the circuit, its not my field actually, i dont relly understand electronics thant much, i assumed it to be easier done..

So as i understand from you, i must while the siren is on do the ingnition from 0 to 1 thing and after the car is in programming mode, the alarm will stop in 3 minutes, please just answer yes or no? :)

To link a new key or resync an old one.

This is for reprogramming keys or programming new ones :

- First turn the key to position '1' and after 10 seconds the red led next to the clock should light up. When it does remove key and led should stay lit.

- Point the key at remote eye on the outer door handle pressing the rear button on the key until the light on the key comes on.

- Keeping the rear button pressed, press the front button 4 times then release both buttons together.

- The led on the clock should flash 4 times to indicate that it has been accepted.

- Finally turn ignition to position 2 to confirm and exit programming.

For more keys repeat the process before turning the ignition on .

Yeah, thanks for the site, looks good. I tried going in to the programming mode just now, but it wont work, the alarm is screaming and nothing is happening, in some 1 minute or so intervals it becomes quiet for a while but then starts on again... Maybe i am doing something wrong, you said that i had to wait 3 minutes, but from wich point, i cant see that the car is in this programming mode because the led is flashing constantly and after the 10 seconds mentioned in the turorial i cant see a light flash or i can not distinguish it from the sirens led flashing? :( i really ddont know what to do

Hi Mishax

it realy does sound like your keyfob is not working.by that i mean broken.

if you are going to program the alarm it will have to be in the period when it is quiet.
