Fiesta Econetic Winter Tyres Question

Hi all,

I stumbled upon this website thanks to google, i have a question. I recently brought a fiesta econetic; however i wish to purchase some winter tyres as i'm planning a trip to Norway in February. My question is, are there different types of winter tyres, different 'groove' levels, etc? & where can i purchase some from + price range.

winter tyres are like summer tyres in as much as tread patterns etc.

You will be lucky to get some at the mo' due to the demand because of the snow etc we have had.

Large places like kwik fit are sold out in my area, but smaller places have some left. I paid £70 each for mine

My winter tyres (Continental WinterContact TS800) have a 'V'-shaped tread pattern and honeycombe all over.

Bought them from Kwik Fit a few months ago for £53ea. They seem to be out of stock now and everyone is struggling to find any.

I've just come across your message on Google whilst searching for another Ford Fiesta Econetic owner. I was wondering how you are getting on with your Econetic? My husband and I bought ours a year ago as we looked around and decided that as we are high mileage users, the Econetic would be the best option as it can achieve 60 - 80 mpg. We purchased the vehicle a year ago and out of that year the car has been at the dealers in their garage of 6 months approx. We realised there was a problem with the vehicle within 2 weeks of buying the car as we noticed we were only getting around 50 mpg, this was on short runs around Somerset where we live and on long runs down to Cornwall. We have complained over and over to the dealer, who has also had 8 of it's employees also drive our car and they too only achieved 48 - 50 mpg!! At first the dealer tried to blame our driving - but after 8 of their guys achieved the same mileage they couldn't really stick to that one! Our car is now sitting in the dealers car park where it has been for the last 4 months - we have had a Ford Courtesy car with their writing all over it and the situation is so bad now that neighbours have started to think we are employees of Fords as we've had their car for so long! Our situation is now the sales manager of the dealer and the service manager both agree there is a problem with our car and they admit that it doesn't match up to spec, however when we contacted Ford Direct Head Office they didn't want to know - their argument is that because their computer doesn't register a problem then there is nothing wrong with the car!! We told them it was them who made the car and they should sort it out - but sadly they don't want to know. This whole process is causing us sleepless nights and unnecessary worry as we and the dealers know there is a problem. I managed to catch a guy locally who parked his Econetic in a local supermarket carpark and he was delighted with his Econetic's performance - he said he achieves between 67 mpg to 75 mpg regularly and is overall extremely satisfied. We have only ever seen that other Econetic so I haven't had the chance to ask anyone else which is why I'm asking you. I hope you don't mind my comments but we'd really like to know how you feel about your Econetic and what sort of mpg you achieve. Sorry I can't help you with the winter tyre question you had - but as you can appreciate we haven't had possession of our car for 4 months as it's sitting doing nothing in the dealers car park! Would appreciate any advice you can offer or any suggestions as to what we could do next to try to resolve this awful problem!

Hi, I have an '09 plate econetic I purchased second hand about 11 months ago. Generally I have averaged 65 - 70 mpg whilst owning the car, in mixed driving conditions, with a minimum of around 50 in town, around 70 at motorway speed, and 80 achievable at a steady 45 - 55 mph. The most I ever got over a trip was 84mpg on a 45 mile almost all A/B road round trip. I havn't had any problems since I got it. The only slightly worrying thing was the first couple of times the DPF (diesel particulate filter) regenerated. Basically for maybe 10 mins, the car puts extra fuel through the engine to heat up the exhaust to burn off the build up in the filter, and your mpg will roughly halve. It does this roughly every 1000 miles.

Hi Ive had my Fiesta Econetic for coming up 2 weeks now,due to my job most of my mileage is basically town driving,mines been saying between 52- 53 around town but I did wonder if it was possible to achieve what Ford maintain it should achieve. It will be interesting to see what I get out of it when I do a longer journey. Be interesting to see what Ford will eventually do about your car.

Under the Sale of Goods Act your contract to purchase the car is with the Dealer that sold it to you, NOT Ford Direct. If this is the same dealer that agrees that the car is faulty then I think I would ask Trading Standards for advice about how to reject the car as being unfit for purpose and not of merchantable quality. Simply request a full refund or replacement car - and give them a time limit to comply. The selling Dealer is 100% responsible for sorting out the problem and it is their responsibility to claim back from Ford Direct or the Manudfacturer - not yours. Best of Luck

Maria, we have had 3 modern diesel fords in the last 3 years, a 2009 2.0 tdci focus a 2009, 1.4 tdci fiesta and our current car a 2010 1.6 tdci focus.

And all of them have had avarage fuel consumption untill after there first service at 12500 miles then suddenly the fuel consuption got 25 - 30 % better, and the focus has now had its 25,000 mile service and its now at 28000 miles and drives better than ever! how many miles has your fiesta econetic done ??

also im sure you know this already but mpg is more down to the driver than the car i can get 74 mpg to a destination then my step mum can get in and drive home and can only get 50 mpg. When i want to hipermile (as i call it) i try to change gear at 1800 rpm max and try to look ahead and avoid breaking as much as posible ( without being a nucence to other road users or being dangerous) and try to roll everywhere as much as posible whilst the car is in gear as effectivly the car uses no fuel what so ever , as opposed to putting it into nutral and rolling where the car uses a smalll amount of fuel to keep the engine from stalling , also makes sure tyre pressure our 1-2 psi above recomended pressure and take as much unnessasry weight out as possible ( i.e the other half or the moaning kids lol) , hope this helps .
