the swan Posted January 26, 2011 Share Posted January 26, 2011 any ideas for the 'secret' hole? been looking at sat navs, not come across one that folds out into a screen yet, small enough for the hole, looking to maybe make a custom size fitting which slides in and out of the hole? any ideas? all comments welcome ..... You risk getting your hand stuck ! My tomtom satnav certainly doesn't fit. I'm intrigued as to what Ford had in mind. The cover is marked 'IP centre lid'. Is the IP some reference to a future networking device ? Or maybe, I thought, are Ford thinking ahead to where to put the decoder when analogue radio is switched off ? Oh I see...thanks :) I've driven more Fiestas than I care to admit but this is the first I've heard of the 'secret hole'. My latest Fiesta has a Sony radio is it underneath that? It closes now, but if i hit a speed bump to quick it opens lol. Im thinking of making it into something, i.e. sat nav holder but i am no where near a good DIY man. You lot must have small hands to reach to the bottom of the compartment ! Getting your hand stuck whilst driving would not be funny ! antman99 Posted March 30, 2011 Share Posted March 30, 2011 Guys, Look for Bens ZS thread you will see he has attached some clips, il be doing the same soon when i get round to paying more for postage than the clip! but it is quite smart, i wish i could create a mount for my tomom on rails but it is just fitting but very tight so no room to spare! R-head Posted March 30, 2011 Share Posted March 30, 2011 I used some magnetic tape for my door, a piece either side on the car part of the hole; a matching piece on each side of the flap ....... the 2 rolls of self-adhesive magnetic strip only cost me £1 from guess where? Magenta Posted March 31, 2011 Share Posted March 31, 2011 R-Head's magnetic tape sounds the best idea. I have some push-pull clips ready to fit but can't find the ideal position. Using double sided tape to mount them doesn't work and araldite is a bit too permanent. I was thinking about magnetic catches and the magnetic tape sounds a brilliant idea. Pound shop here I come ! At the moment I'm just trying a big bit on either side, it used to be about 1/2 the size but when I lined the door with some left over carpet/felt I used for the rear of the seats the magnets weren't big enough and the door kept dropping. I currently have a '10' registerd Mk 7 (basic 'Edge' I think) as a courtesy car while mine is being repaired and the hinged lid is identical to ours even down to the bits of black sponge stuck on. Someone said they had a version with a clip-on only cover. Would this be a later car I wonder ? Actually I'm still trying to think of a really practical use for the hole. MRC89 Posted April 28, 2011 Share Posted April 28, 2011 Get a screwdriver (or key) cover it in a tissue or cloth, and gently pry it open from the top, the clip is in the top middle, so you need to apply a bit of force either side once you can get the screwdriver in far enough. I now have the magnetic tape in place and it works fine - brilliant idea - thanks R-head. If you put anything small in the compartment it can be difficult to reach to get out again. Involved cutting and shutting, as well as sanding down the lid so give me another 1mm - 1.5mm of room. Looks factory when closed. Fits a tomtom Go 550 perfectly. Also modified my satnav mount and secured it to the dash by friction (rubberised dash is pretty awesome for 'wedging' stuff into without damage/marks). I fed the wire where the ambient lighting kit fits and then through the bracket that holds the glovebox closed (removed it, threaded wire, refitted). Saved alot of headaches on the 3000 mile trip we took across Europe, I would have hated to have kept sticking/unsticking from the Windscreen then taking it in the hotels with us.
