Escort van engine help required

Featured Replies

I currently have a 1999, t reg, ford escort van 75. It has the 1.8 standard endura diesel engine! Im finding this van to be very slow and noticed the 1.8td is quicker!

Does anyone have any info as to how i can either add a turbo to the standard engine and all the parts i'd require to do it.

Or would i have to buy a 1.8td engine and fit that and again what other parts would i need to go with it.

Your help would be appreciated as ive gone from a honda integra type r to this sluggish van! And i'm constantly banging my head on the steering wheel in pain!

It is possible to add the turbo gear to the standard lump but its just as easy to put a TD lump in. If you can get one with a gearbox its easier else to match the TD to your gearbox you will have to change the flywheel and clutch from your old engine to the new.

Other than that it is a straight swap only needing a new exhaust downpipe and you have to cut the starter motor live into your ignition live but not a big problem.

Easy conversion to do really mate.

I cant help you mate but felt i had to say..... I had a honda civic 1.6 vti saloon 170bhp, loved it to bits, only car I have ever missed :'(

but then cos of growing family and work, I had to get rid, and get a van for work and a little run around for the mrs. Found an escort 55d with 1.8 dura De engine......good little van by all accounts but so !Removed! slow its untrue lol

Someone has told me and I dunno if its true, that if you have a cav inj pump it will make a big difference by swapping it for a bosch one, not tried it myself but ask on here and someone will know i'm sure!

The good thing is that these little diesel vans of ours are pretty good on furel eh lol

good luck mate, let me know how you get on?

So it's possible? I want to see that once it's finished. I don't have any idea to do it & I am really curious to know anything about it.
