Ok guys, just my two cents :-)

I'm sorry if my english is not perfect, but I hope you can understand what I try to say.

I bought the Bosch Parkpilot URF7 from amazon.de... it was the lowest price I found on the internet.

Taking away the rear bumber is very easy, and takes about 15 minutes; there are just 4 screws and 6 plastic "nails" (sorry, but I don't know the english name); if somebody is interested, I can post the Ford Manual pages where all the steps are shown.

I decided to take it away in order to work in a more comfortable way; moreover in this way I had the opportunity to find the markers (it's a + embossed on the plastic) for the original sensors on the inside of the bumber.

It was a bit harder to take away the moquette (and all the plastic pieces) in the rear boot, because it's like chinese boxes (pieces are stuck in each other), but it is definitely something that can be done with a bit of attention.

I installed the main unit below the rear right fender (on UK cars I guess it's better to use the left side), without having to make holes in the car's body, by using two plastic ties.

I took the negative from there, by putting a screw in a hole (that hole was already there), after using sandpaper to take away some paint, and I took the positive from the rear light wire (it should be pin n. 6, blue colored), by using a "current stealer"; I don't know the english name, but it's this item:

rubacorrente.jpg

After that I needed a hole to bring all the sensor wires outside; and on the floor of the boot, below the moquette, I found two holes with a plug... so I just had to make a hole in the plug and seal it again after pulling the wires outside.

I had a problem with the drill cutter I tried on the first attempt. They are for wood works, and make a bad work on the plastic bumper; they are open on one side, and the coupling on the holder is not very stable. Here you can see:

frese_seghe_a_tazza_set_7.jpg

So... now you are warned: do not use the above cutter, but only use the below ones. They make a very good hole without any blur.

Here you are some pictures of the job.

Here you can see where I put the buzzer; inside the right strut; I didn't want to put it in a place where it was visible, so I wanted to hide it.

The first picture is taken from away, the others are make very close, you can see the buzzer inside the belt's hole; a few leds are lit.

This is from outisde of the car. The sensors are installed in the same place where Ford puts them in the factory.

This is the place where I put the main unit and all the wires in the rear boot.

In the first picture you can see everything at its own place when the work is done, in the others you can see below the moquette.

The main unit and all the wires are clearly visible.

IMG_0111.jpgIMG_0115.jpgIMG_0116.jpg

P.S.

The black-red wire you see in one of the pictures is a wire I used to feed the current to the 2nd rear-fog lamp.

On UK cars the fog lamp it's only on the right side, in the rest of EU it's on the left side. I bough the UK spare part and fitted to my Fiesta.

I like symmetrical things :-)

Can anyone confirm if location guides (for the sensors) are pre-moulded on the inside of the bumper like they are on most other Fords?

Yep, I bought those ones. amazon.de was the cheapest online shop selling them.

Hi all!

I am intesrested in installing rear parking sensors to my MK7 titanium fiesta as well. I'd love my result to be as Hellshammer's (post #15).

Are these instructions available? I see under my bumper there is a very narrow gap and I have some reservations whether the sensors could be ok. The other main issue is the wiring connections, as I read rickycowslip had some issues with his.

Last but not least, how do you paint the sensors? Color coded spray from a paint store, or using the touch up kit from ford?

I'd really appreciate any input.

Thanks in advance!

My suggestion is to buy the Bosch Parkpilot; I bought them on amazon.de a few months ago and it was a quite good price.

In the box you'll find everything you need in order to install the sensors; you can put them in the same place as Hellshammer, or in the same place as original sensors.

For painting don't use the touch up kit, it won't do a good job.

Buy the color coded spray, it's the best solution.

Just a quick question.

If I would like to go with the setup (sensor positions on bumper) like on Hellshammer's (post #15), is this still achievable without removing the bumper? Or is it only possible when you position the sensors much lower as on some other setups?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

In both cases you need to remove the bumper, but don't worry ... it's very easy; in 10 minutes it's done.

This is the "kit" I bought: Bosch Parkpilot URF7.

The Bosch manual tells you to install the sensors as in Hellshammer's car, but I like much more the "original" position.

Here you are a few pictures of my car after the job is done:

Here you are the info on how to uninstall the rear bumper (I'm sorry, but they are in Italian):

Last, but not least, here you are a picture showing the positions for the parking sensors installed by the factory (they are in centimeters):

I wonder if there are any performance differences in terms of fitting the sensors higher vs lower. Like if you are parking and there is lets say 10-15 cm (4-6 inches) tall kerb or obstacle, would it echo the signal back to the sensors bit better if they are positioned lower?

Also does fitting parking sensors void the warranty?

Thanks for the reply. I visited a ford service center and asked them about: 1) the placing and the gap behind the bumper, 2) the wiring.

1) The electrician said if you drill right there (as seen on post #15) you have a decent gap behind, won't hit the rail or anything. He said he drills right there and there are some ways to route and secure the cables behind there. Can't say more, didn't do it myself yet. He starts marking from the middle to the sides, middle being the clip of the trunk. Each sensor has a distance of 40cm from the next. All sensors are installed at a height approximately 56cm from the ground. You do not need to remove the bumper at all. (In case some might like to, lollapalooza's pics should help a lot)

2) The wiring is as sentinel described in post #8.

Rear light drivers side ====== Sensor wire

Blue -------------------------------------------- Red

Black/Blue (dual colour + a little pink?) --- Black

There is a connector (in my rear drivers lamp) which has 5 wires (3+2). The two, are those that you should connect as described above.

Hope that helped, and I also hope I find time to install mine this weekend. If I do, I'll come back with updates and hopefully a guide :)

Be safe, good luck and have fun!!

EDIT:

Rain, yes if they are angled down they might give false readings, or if angled up they might miss things. I read somewhere that optimal height is between 50-60cm from the ground, always facing parallel to the ground. Nevertheless, some work as low as 40cm with no false alarms...

Fitting should not void the warranty in my opinion, but you should better ask you dealer about that my friend :(

Give us a shout when you have done your guide. More information the better. So far there is some great stuff in this thread.

This is the content of the Bosch box:

As you can see there are many "rings" for different mounting angle; the sensors have to be parallel to the ground.

Check this table; it's from the Bosch manual:

tabella.jpg

Check also this URL, it's the Ford manual for mounting the after-market sensors:

P.S.

You can easily drill the holes without uninstalling it, that's not a problem at all, but I fitted the Bosch sensors by myself by uninstalling the bumber.

The problem is that you won't have enough room to work behind the bumper with your hands for placing the cables and all the rest. My suggestion is to take off the bumber, it's very easy.

I think Nath has done it. I'm not sure if anyone else has done it.

I've installed the X Vision Parking sensors and can scan the instructions that came with them if anyone would like me to email it over? Just pop a pm over if you do :)

I just want to thank lollapalooza for his time and great posts, I have a '59 plate Zetec S, panther black, had it from new and is mainly used as a second car.

In my opinion, any position other than the factory locations on the Zetec S, spoil the look of the bumper, so have been searching for a solution for ages, the dealer fit X-vision ones go across the bumper and don't look factory at all, so did not personally want to go down this route, to retrofit the original system would be close to impossible as CAN pathways are utilized and lesser spec cars have different looms and modules, so, just not worth it..

The great thing about the Bosch Park Pilot URF 7, other than the quality of the components, looms e.t.c. is the fact they are able to function low down in the factory positions, so it was a great find by lollapalooza, I now have a Zetec S that looks almost identical to one ordered with factory sensors.

The factory markings are clearly visible on the Zetec S diffuser and bumper, so there is no room for positional error. I was present when my body shop did the work in Westcliff-on-Sea.

The Bosch URF 7 can be colour coded to match the colour of the diffuser and rear bumper and as I said, work really well.

For anyone like me who wants the factory look, go for the URF 7 from Bosch, great bit of kit!

Thanks lollapalooza.. LEGEND!!!

hello everyone.. i managed to buy my sensors from eurocarparts and it costed me £23.99. I asked my local garage to fit it for me. They color coded it for me ( colorado red ) and fitted it. They charged me £ 60 for it. which i think was a good deal. considering that ford dealer wanted £200 for it.

I'm new to the forum here so hi! I'm picking up my fiesta zetec s mk7 at the weekend and I am wanting to add the rear parking sensors myself. This thread looks very useful. Just interested in knowing how the sensors performed over time? Did they last ok and are they reliable? I've seen a cheap kit on amazon that looks very similar to the kits used here.

Thanks

At the moment they're still working, and they are quite reliable.

But I'm not sure that the cheaper ones will perform in the same way.

Had a quick read through the majority of the topic, and didn't see anyone mention the "invisible" "hole-less" parking sensors.

I'm going to be buying them on eBay shortly, they're about £25. It's mainly an 'antenna' which self-adheres to the inside of your bumper, no drilling necessary. As long as the bumper is plastic they work... apparently.

I do know that i'm going to need to run a switched 12V supply on a relay from the reversing light, which hopefully won't be too difficult.

I'll report my findings once installed in my fiesta, and possibly make a guide! They might not be any good at all, but at the end of the day I wouldn't have drilled any holes and can remove it with no trace (in theory :) )

Sorry if this has been posted before!

AFAIK they doesn't work very well... you'll have a lot of false positives (even with grass), and they are absolutely useless when raining... in such a situation they always beep.
