CharlieFarlie
Picked this up on another Forum. Now its unlikely that You would or would need to push start Your Ford but apparently an increasing number of engines are being damaged when attempting to do so.. Perhaps in the cold weather ? Might just save somebody a large bill. Please read..... Bump starting Most of the TDCI engined Fords from is cold is dangerous as the lack of oil pressure in the timing chain tensioner means that the chain may be slack and the shock loading of a rough bump start can cause the chain to jump, When it jumps it wrecks the cam carrier making for an expensive repair. If you must push or tow start your TDCI engined Ford do it in third gear but DO NOT use the clutch just pull it from rest in gear so that the engine starts turning slowly allowing the tensioner to work as normal.
