Thermostat - not working correctly
Posted 20 October 2008 - 02:15 PM
I had a similar experience a couple of months ago but at that time it varied from the first white line to the middle (12 Oíclock). The problem seemed to correct itself overnight but started up again last week.
Iím used to seeing the gauge maintain mid point, 12 Oíclock. Any advice would be appreciated, what could be the fault, should I get it in the garage.

Apparently this is a common fault. The water pump stops working and the temp go up.
My only problem with this is the temperature is very low is only getting to 60 and hovering above or below. If it was the water pump wouldn't the car temp increase to nearer 120 (the red).

the symptoms you are getting point towards the 2nd thermostat(oil cooler) which is situated on the water pump i would change this first as its a cheaper option that a water pump.
can any one explain where this second thermostat is ive been trying to get my st tdci to heat up this past month ive changed the (number 1) thermostat and my next move was the waterpump but if i knew where this other thermostat was id change it
