RCJ
Hey guys... Ive searched high and low for this answer... and no one puts it in straight black and white.... so hoping someone on here can help! I want to get my motorbike licence. So my questions are: Do i need a new provisional licence card for motorbikes? or does it go on my car one as a provisional? How do i go about this? Ive been on the DVLA website who say apply for a new one, but nothing about adding to a full uk car licence.... Its so confusing, well to me anyway! jeebowhite
For Bikes, I think you need to apply to get it added as a provisional to your own license (depending on your age). When you pass your CBT you can then ride a bike no more than 125cc for 2 years. You then pass your Bike Test, and you can then ride anything, in the meantime you send off your license once again and they add the motorbike privelages to it. Im not a biker myself but also looked into this, but at the time I did, I was 17, so that was the process I would have had to go down! RCJ
Thanks, because im 21 i can do the direct access scheme, so i do my theory cbt and bike test... and can ride any bike. but the licence part has been confusing the hell out of me haha
Dan62
Your current driving licence is provisional for classes of vehicles you are entitled to drive (by age restriction, weight etc...) that you do not already have endorsed on it, so yes, if you have a current licence and are over the legal age to ride a bike it is provisional for that vehicle (bike). Once you have passed your test and returned the pass certificate and your existing licence it will be endorsed with the relevant code giving you full entitlement to ride / drive that class. bikemad
Hi, I think you will find that you will have to have motorcycle entitlement added to your licence. If you get a form from po there is a small box that needs to be ticked when applying. I'm a motorcycle instuctor and the opptions open to you once you get you licence are,,, cbt, theory, then you can take you test on a 125 then once test is passed you are then restricted to 33bhp for 2 years then after this your licence is open. or direct access. hope this helps. rgds chris.
