Hi Guys, can anyone tell me where the heater matrix is on a 97 mk2 td?

I have been told it is located behind the glove box inside the car, is this correct?

My heater doesn't get hot and the heater temp knob doesn't do anything, I took the dash to bits and the weird cog mechanism behind the temp knob was a bit worse for where, so I would like to set it manually to be 3/4 hot permanently throughout the winter but I could not trace the cable back to the matrix.

Does anyone have an egr valve from an Endura DE motor I can have?
