Hi

I've just recently started palying around with the AUX button and "Y" cable and have a few questions about connecting my iPhone 4 to the car system via 'bluetooth' only, and then using the Ford "Y" Cable which I hope that someone can help me with?

Ok, when I connect my iPhone to the system using 'bluetooth', I can receive and make 'handsfree' calls, change radion stations and Cd tracks, all using voice control but, I have music on the iPhone and when I press "AUX" on the radio unit and choose "bluetooth audio", the music on my iPhone plays and I can skip tracks, back or forward and also adjust the volume up or down using the 'steering wheel controls' but, no information is shown on the radio display about the music that I am streaming from my iPhone? All that is shown on the display is a large icon which looks like a wireless type icon and the function buttons at the bottom of the matrix display are not available.

Is this the way it should work when I am streaming audio from my iPhone via bluetooth or, is there a way to get the matrix display to show info about the music that is being played?

When I connect the iPhone using both 'bluetooth' and the "Y" cable, do I actually need the 'bluetooth' enabled for the phone to work as it does when connected via bluetooth and, secondly, again with regard to the music, if I'm using the "Y" cable only, how do I get the music to play through the car with music info displayed and full control from the steering wheel?

Last but not least, I've read in the Fiesta forum that the Fiesta supports "Ford Audio" and that if you press the 'AUX' button twice, Ford Audio is displayed on the display matrix but, I've tried this and it's not displayed.

Note: I have the latest Apple software installed on my iPhone 4.

Thanks, BHeart

What do you believe Ford Audio is/should do other than what it's doing now?

Can't comment on the iPhone issue - my Nokia N8 sends artist information to the screen via bluetooth but maybe iPhone doesn't support that (unless using USB/Y cable)

Hi iNath

Thanks for your reply.

With regard to Ford Audio support, yes you are obviously right and I do see that displayed when the head unit comes on and it's also shown in bluetooth settings but I only queried it when another user commented about seeing if you pressed the AUX button twice.

You would think that the iPhone 4 with the latest software would support info being displayed when streaming music via bluetooth but, my friends new 11 plate Audi A1 also displays no info when streaming music from her iPhone,

so we are in good company.

Hi,

I also have an iPhone synced with my car. When used in bluetooth mode it doesn't display any track info on the car but if you plug it in using the y cable it should. Also when you have the y cable in you don't need to have bluetooth on if you want to listen to music, you just go to aux and ipod should appear and display all the information

Unfortunately due to reasons i dont know, the iPhone does not stream the information only the music, but with the full control (skip tracks etc..)

The only way you will currently get both the track names and music is to connect the phone using the Y cable and playing music like this.

The phone can obviously be connected for normal phone uses via bluetooth still.

All we can hope for is a update from Apple that agrees with Ford, or an update from Ford that agrees with Apple, but until then we are stumped with one of the above.

Been saying it for 2 years now, sod this bluetoothy song and connecting ipod listening off and get a USB stick and use that, the best way to listen to music in the car. Does everything an iPod/iPhone does but better, well apart from confusing everyone.

Either use a Y cable or, if using bluetooth, just have some playlists set up for when you are driving. Does having info on screen essential? Set a playlist going, and leave the phone in your pocket, be on your merry way and enjoy your drive. With technology comes choice. Keep it simple is my motto.
