several things can cause smoke

tdci's are fuel sensitive so supermarket fuel will smoke more than a branded fuel - try some injector cleaner. if the egr valve is gunked up this will also cause smoke, if there is a loss of power or miss fire check for a split turbo hose. any of these will cause smoke, without seeing the car its hard to say what the problem is. i presume its black smoke we are talking about.
