back to ford and the new slave cylinder on the clutch was leaking inside the box they took it all apart at there cost cleaned up the box and put a whole brand new clutch kit in now the car runs as it should no gearbox rattle either and due to the hassle i got a free service as well

yeah you got that right when i got it back the bite was high and the gearbox was rattling as if the release bearing was rattling off the pressure plate but i was told that it was the gearbox not the clutch when i questioned the fluid dripping off the bottom of the bell housing i was told water when i tasted it it was brake fluid i was told it was overfilled and must have spilt so i told them we will see 1 week later the low fluid light came on and low and behold the clutch fluid was low as well as the gearbox dripping small puddles and a clutch pedal like a sponge they werent happy when i pointed out i was right in the first place and know my car better than they could but they admitted the seal on the slave cylinder was faulty and due to contamination the whole lot was ripped out and new parts put in most garages would have simply put the slave cylinder in and left the rest

Rather get mine done from a proper car mechanic with decades of experience and reliability and guarantees and professionalism. Ford dealers can take a running jump for all i care. In fact all car dealers can take their overhiped disgusting prices and shoddy workmanship and shove it where the sun will never shine.

Rant over.

completely agree!

After the hassle i had with my exhaust after owning the car a week, no way will i touch a ford dealer again. Trying to fit a cheapy exhaust system from a 2001-2004 2.0tdci when mine is a 2004-2007 2.2tdci - obviously didnt think i would check up on the part numbers. Also the foam and tyre valves stuck in there too!! once i questioned this they did nothing but stumble and try to hide it. Each to their own though

Well as usual, let me bring a little bit of balance into the debate. :P

You get good dealerships and bad dealerships, just like you get good independents and bad independents. You will usually find all that separates them as a rule is the hourly rates they charge.

What cost was there for replacing the clutch itself? did they charge you at all?

Tis a fair point Catch raises. Overall my dealers werent too bad, but then again they found a few ways to scrimp and save. i.e. I won a free service with them - took my car in, left it with them, on collecting, they had basically took a quick look over everything - nothing to comment, nothing done, nothing changed... baring in mind I had the fuel filter replaced only a few weeks before and was "advised" that the coolant could do with being replaced, and that the handbrake needed tightening - yet none of this was mentioned on that paperwork...

So even one good dealer, can find ways to save every penny they can. Good luck to them though, 01-04 exhaust on an 07 car :) genius :)

p.s Catch - I like the new quote in the signature!

Edit: Jeeb hows your motor running ......up and down the highway...

Definately a good result overall! it makes it worthwhile going to a dealer when you get some freebies like that!

Catch - I believe it may be time to update my old "au revoir focus" thread when I get a few minutes :)

Well if you are interested in the Cee'd take a good look at my au revoir thread, and see if it helps you maje a call. I was looking dominantly at the Cee'd, there is also the Pro_Cee'd (sporty version) or mine is the family one. Other than that - the hyundaie i20 / i30 is about the same as the Focus size wise, Honda - I cant say other than the accord I know of many great replacements to the focus, for sort of "like for like" quality of the cars. Same for the Nissan really (personally I cant find one of the Nissans that I like the look of, plus I find the Juke is a face that would cause me to wakeup in the night screaming!

Mazda on the other hand, fantastic cars, but at more of a cost! the Mazda 5 / 6 is definately a good car to look at as a replacement to the Foci!
