can any1 tell me y my escort needed a mondeo clutch fitted?

I went to get my clutch changed on wot i thought was a 1.6 ford escort, £320 later i was told it was mondeo clutch that needed fitting. i was wondering if any1 knew y this would b?

the only reason for fitting a mondy clutch would be to match the flywheel but the mondy flywheel will not fit an escort gearbox so i think somebody has been telling porkys.
