debbyf73 Posted November 29, 2008 Share Posted November 29, 2008 Now that the cold weather has set in, I'm having a really annoying problem with condensation on the inside of my windscreen. Never the side windows, just the windscreen. It doesn't happen on a morning but when I get back into my car on a night after work, I'm having to put the aircon on full, the heated windscreen on and then wait approx 5 mins for it to clear before driving off. Drivers side headlight also condensing up on inside - not sure whether its related. Have owned Ford's since I started driving and never had this problem before. Car is a 1.8 zetec, registered in Jan 2007. Went to my local Ford dealer today, explained the problem to him and the response I got was "its just one of those things, my modeo does the same.". He then asked if I do lots of short journeys. During the week it only travels 1.5 miles to work, then 1.5 miles back - so the answer is yes. He said that was the problem. I said I'd always done the same trip in my old Fords and never had a problem. He shrugged his shoulders. Am I being fobbed off here? Does anyone else agree that this shouldn't happen? Nope, have run my hands over all carpets and matting - all dry. Have also checked round the edges of windscreen to see if I could feel any draughts - nothing. It's not a major problem but its bugging me !! Really annoying seeing people coming out of work, get into really old cars and just driving off - yet I'm sat there like a lemon for 5 mins drying my windows off. Was thinking of resorting to using some sort anti-fog treatment. Has anyone used Comma ProVision Fog Clear Gel? Would appreciate any views people have on this product. LOL Shouldn't assume such things really - my fella isn't and the chap I spoke to in my local Ford dealership didn't seem to be either. alz Posted December 22, 2008 Share Posted December 22, 2008 Read your Owners guide, look in (Climate Controls) Screen Demisting Set heat control to hot and turn on AC control,, The AC control is auto when controls are set to hot & windscreen..as for the light you will have to take it out,,dry it with an hairdryer,,then reseal the back plate with a little bit of White Grease..that should stop the light from fogging up.. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that old cruddy seals can let damp inside the car when its stood and cause this problem. My mum has a Fiesta registered in May 2007 and last winter went back and forward to the local Ford dealership with exactly the same problem. Front windscreen and rear screen absolutely soaking at times usually when it had been damp or raining and then a frost overnight. A towel was required as the front screen would be dripping wet. The garage offered a solution to the problem a ....wait for it....Ford winter pack which included a demister!!! This was after them seeing it with the soaking wet inside screen as had cautiously made my way there with not very good vision! This went on for a couple of months and Ford replaced a drivers door seal and they had the car overnight and it did exactly the same the next day so we were handed the car back with no suggestions on what the problem was. The problem continued until we had been out one day and went to the boot and there was a small area that had turned white - yes mould had set in. Under the top carpet the felt was soaking. Ford got the car again and found a gromit(spell check??) was missing and we thought it was the end to the problem UNTIL winter 2008. The problem has returned and we are very unwilling to go back to the garage without knowing exactly what is causing the problem. Yesterday I took all the mats out and the linings in the boot, checked under the carpet which sits over the arches and had a good feel around all of the car and everything seems to be dry. My mum also does short journeys like has been mentioned and she has been using the air conditioning(when she remembers!) but finds that when you put the air conditioning off the windows gum up quickly afterwards - can anyone explain why this occurs? She drove an older Ford previously and I used to have a 16 year old Escort cabriolet which only in the last year of ownership I had a problem with frosting inside the screen due to the seals not being good enough. Like the previous comment you feel extremely silly sitting in a car just under 2 years old drying the inside of the screen before you set off. Yesterday Ford told me that water leaks are only covered for a year so any repair would be chargeable - This does not seem fair at all and does not say much for Ford if it is deemed acceptable to leak after 12 months. Can anyone advise on whether any work would be covered due to the fact that the problem last time was sorted(allegedly) in February 2008 so it is still under a year from that repair? Liongolfer Posted January 25, 2009 Share Posted January 25, 2009 I get the same problem on the rear screen of my 08 Focus, rear heater clears the outside no problems but inside takes ages to clear, again I just do short journeys to and from work (2.5 miles both ways), probably dosen't help that I keep the scraper in the boot and keep lifting and closing it to get. ToolBox Posted February 25, 2009 Share Posted February 25, 2009 Hi, I have owned Fords for 32 years now and only noticed this problem with my first air conditioned / climate controlled car, I do many miles and verry few short trips, the condensation on windscreen and rear window is more noticeable after short trips such as weekend shopping, has anybody noticed during warm damp weather the air con often has to be used to stop the screen misting up even when the car is fully warmed up and the blower is on, unfortunately I think this is the price of progress, cars better insulated from weather and noise etc, but also the climate controll system contributes to it.
