Could be a slipping clutch.

Put your clutch under load by accelerating briskly whilst in 4th gear uphill. Does it feel like the engine is revving faster than you're accelerating? If so, then clutch is slipping.

The other option is try to bite the clutch, does it take longer than usual to lift the nose of the car? A good clutch should start to lunge forward, a bad clutch would struggle.

Other than that, the old test of heel on accelerator, toes firmly on the gas and just drop the clutch - does the engine stall, or do you get a horrible smell of poor clutch?
