Hi,just registered, ive owned many escorts/fords since 1987 when i passed my test, the latest being my 2002 ford escort diesel van,
have changed rear brake shoes before ,but not on the van ,when i removed wheel all i can see is the grease cap that will not come off,
will damage if i continue, there are no screws as with the cars ? there is a small bit on it i dont recognise about the size of a wheel balance

Dont you take the centre cap off with a small screwdriver and then undo the centre nut ( anti-clock-wise ) then tap the hub off.
