on a zetec, you should have for the most part, the wiring present, and hopefully a compatible fuseboard. on the other hand, I was recently posting to a Fiesta Owner, who on speaking to his local dealer advised that the "fuseboard for the vehicles with the powerfold mirrors was far too different to the fuseboard for vehicles without this feature" and as a result it was "a mammoth task" and they werent going to bother...

So presuming that you have the right compatible fuseboard, it shouldnt be too bad, installing a relay, and the wiring might be present so that you can just replace the mirror housings.

Thanks for your reply i assume that i will have to take the door card off to see if theres a wiring loom present if theres not what do the 2 fuse boxes look like as if mine is the right fuse box adding a relay and wiring loom would not be too hard.. so any pics of the 2 different fuse boxes would be great, or do they have a ford part number stamped on them

Afraid I cant really say, this was second hand knowledge from someone on the general area for a fiesta it may be worth calling your local dealer and letting them know that its something you are considering, they may tell you something useful.

as for the loom, you may be able to do it by removing the plastic trim next to where the motor should be for the mirrors, you should see the loom is hanging down - attached to the power cables going to the mirror.

would be really interested to hear if you are successful in doing this modification as i would love to do it on my 58 plate zetec as my friends mondeo has the function and i think its a brilliant idea as my other cars wingmirrors get smashed quite frequently wen not pushed in by the wife.

Seen the mirrors on eBay Item number: 130551473652

So the fuse box will look similar to the one below does anyone know where and which colour the relay for powerfold mirror?

Yeah they are aftermarket so they are not OEM parts, I had a set very similar to that and returned them, went to Ford and paid £80 for exactly the same mirror (minus powerfold).

As long as you can find out more info on your fuseboard, you should be alright :)

EDIT: oh and a heads up, the OEM mirror covers do not fit the aftermarkets, so you will need to also spray the new mirrors to the colour of your car, not entirely a hardship but not as easy as buying OEM parts, on the other hand, there is one large clip on the back of the OEM cover, you can remove that, and it will sit in situ on the replacement mirror, just not quite as secure as the OEM...

Checked the passenger fuse box toaday and there is a slot in the fuse board (fuse no. 79) for power fold mirrors, so will be checking engine fuseboard for fuse 3 ( passenger junction box supply 1) which when i pop 1 in should power fuse 79 in the passenger fuse box,

Next step is to take door card off and see if theres wiring loom there wire colours for power fold mirrors are yellow/green & white/green.

Will post when checked there

popped off mirror switch in drivers door today and see that there was 7 wires going to the switch, had a brief look in haynes manual electrical diagrams.

1: blue/red for up/down (drivers mirror)

2: yellow/blue for left/right (drivers mirror)

so that leaves 5 other's, 2 of which would be for passenger window mirror 1 for up down l for left right, i persume the remainding 3 wires should be feed, negative and power fold...?

which haynes say power fold wire is ye/et which there is yellow/violet present.....

next job to take off mirror and see whats happening there........

Should be I suppose it depends what model you are using, you could add it onto the "universal windows" when you lock / unlock?

Good Luck Steve, hopefully you will find the answer there!
