Fiesta ST Concept revealed at Frankfurt motor show:

I'm not entirely conviced by the new look. The DRLs look quite nicely integrated, but the new grill and the hump in the bonnet will take a bit of getting used to, I think.

At least we won't have to suffer any more "exclusive" photoshops from AutoExpress...

IS it just me for does the side and back look just like the ZS/ Titanium W/Dress up kit and the front look like all the Ford Concepts i.e. nothing like the real version looks like.

Also the front tints would be illegal in the UK!

I like the headlamps appears to have 2 sets of projector lens' in both units, suggesting HID headlamps + full beam may be standard? Love this new shape indicator too. Other than that... I don't think the new grille setup works on the fiesta, I know they're trying to take features from the Focus ST, but it just doesn't suit the Fiesta shape IMO.

Not a fan of the alloys, Ford should either go for the full Focus ST 5 Y spokes, or stick with the steet pack "spanner" 5 spokes. I like the new diffuser, and I'm sure the engine will turn this fiesta into a pocket rocket.

If I were to get one, I think I'd have to get an old Zetec S front bumper + grille, and some new alloys and plain bonnet. Maybe it'll grow on me.

I'm just damn happy they have officially shown it off and will launch it. Out end of next year, production version will be shown at Geneva in March. I also think 178bhp is right, and the torque is also good. Hopefully the price will be around the £18k mark too.

The 'concept' version they have shown today also has no interior hence all the window tints. Well it has no ST interior anyway.

My car has to have it's service, I was waiting to see what Ford show off before I book it in, now I can go and have a word with my dealer.... :) But would white still suite it?

Id go with the white, electric blue, RS Green or Silver mate, not mad on the orange

any dark colour will take away from the grills and the lines in the body.

great power for the size of the car will be interesting to see what mountune can do to it

and a duplex exhaust would look tidy, B)

Yeah, haha I can see Mountune getting 230 from it? I would happily get the ZetecS Mountune pack but I'm just past the noisy exhaust lol!! Had that on my last car, and I have been glad for the quiet life with the new Fezza!

About time - and the timing will be perfect for the hand back on my Options if it's just in time for the 62 plate.

Only disappointment for me is the back end, it's almost no different and they should have gone with a pipe on each side, a la the Stoffler diffuser.

I'll have one in black please.

I also think 178bhp is right, and the torque is also good.

I think my ideal would be that car's 178bhp 1.6 turbo, 6 speed gearbox, and rear disc brakes hidden inside my current 1.6 Titanium X. I prefer subtle B)

I think that the front grille nearly spoils it. Being a fiesta it is still a very very nice car but they need to put the zetec s grille on the front and I think they'd have it spot on. I know they want it to be a little different but it just doesnt look fully right like that. Plus the licence plate being where it is on the other fiestas is probably better for streamlining over the way this one is.

I'm glad ford have come out with this, but i hope it's not on the road with the front and rear bumpers from the concept! So, who's counting down the days till September 2012?

The grill is awful (I don't like the new Focus ST either because I'm not sure on the new styling and think the grill is too big - it looks like a basking shark with its mouth open!). Side and rear profile look good, although not that different from the Zetec S.

Will be interesting to see what the power output is because the last ST was out gunned by its rivals. An output of around 180 would be in like with the MCS, Clio RS etc and then leave room for an RS or Montune version to go head to head with the JCW MCS, DS3 Racing etc.

It's in the article ;)

Under the bonnet is a 1.6-litre Ecoboost engine (that means a turbocharger, direct injection fuel tech, and variable valve timing), producing 178bhp. That's up from the standard 148bhp the 1.6 offers when ensconced in the Focus.

There's 177lb ft too, power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, and Ford claims the concept will manage 0-62mph in under seven seconds, and reach at least 138mph. Plus the CO2 emissions are under 140g/km; the old Fiesta ST was a 148bhp/140lb ft warm hatch that took nearly eight second to do the benchmark sprint, and emitted 177g/km.

I'll be counting my penny's haha, I'm also feeling dumb for not taking the 3 year finance option now! But when I got my Fezza Ford was flatly stating NO ST version!! Oh hum..

I also actually really like Land Rovers new Defender concept, it's another design that grows on you, shame it's not out till 2015 and will most likely start from 21k or more, too rich for me. But if the winters keep going the way they are..... And KIA IS going to build it's concept GT car with over 300BHP!! Exciting times for car fans..

Now all I need on my hit list is for Apple to announce the new iPhone and for Sony tomorrow to announce the UK PSVITA launch date!

Should also add that I guess as the Fiesta is a concept, then if the front end isn't well received then Ford can alway's change it before next year? But the front does match the spy shots seen of the test car.

3-4 weeks and counting ;) although rumors are now pointing towards an iPhone of the same form factor as the iPhone 4 (which I hope ISN'T the case!)

haha, i'm actually hoping it IS the same size. I am in the opposite camp to you, I think though reading the rumours I'm going to be happy and you'll be disappointed, but who knows with Apple? I was hoping they launch two phones, a 4S and a 5. Doesn't look like it though :(

But back to the ST, and talking about phones, what tech will we have as an option for next years models? Will they offer the full Ford Sync system? Like in the Focus? And a colour screen?

Let's just hope an important Ford designer stumbles across our board!

I'd seriously consider this car, but if they released it like this, as earlier, I'd have to revert the front end back to a Zetec S look if possible.

I'll reserve judgment because I actually hated the new Fiesta styling, until I saw it in the flesh!! So maybe I will like this more in the flesh too.

Also of note is the engine, it's almost like the Zetec S petrol with a Turbo bolted on. It will have the twin cam TI-VCT technology as well as all the rest. And 40MPG plus is nice too.

I'd be interested to know where ford gained the 60ps, most of course will be from the turbo but just how much? If all 60ps comes from the turbo that's an increase of 50% power, I'm no expert on turbos but that seems alot.

As it's the same engine (more or less) underneathe, do mountune even need to make new kits? the 140ps and 155ps packs should be a direct replacement? If so, that'd be 200ps (140ps pack) and 215ps (155ps pack). Those would be pretty hot figures to be readily available at car launch!

40MPG should also be achievable too on the long runs, when turbo's aren't on boost they use very little energy, and you should see similar MPG as the N/A 1.6. It's gunna plummit when you thrash it though, I get my ZS down to mid 20's occassionally!

Just also noticed, the headlamps are a different shape, as well as the insides being different.

This is gunna mean it'll be hard to swap out that grille, bumper and bonnet, unless Ford bring in the same shape headlamps on the facelift, with a current style front bumper/grille set up.

Turbos should be good for economy they work by forcing air into the engine creating a better air to fuel mixture and thus making the fuel burn more efficiently this is why they have Turbo Diesels as it is for the economy.

Perhaps they will alter the front end down for production but overall I would say I'm very interested in this car. No dought that it will be great to drive. Really hope they go for the painted brake calipers. I'm also hoping that it will come with features such as a Xenon option, the torque vectoring system from the Focus and full sync with colour screen.
