Guide To Fitting Mist Type Jets On Your Ford

211 posts in this topic

Fitted these to my mk1 Focus today. Much better. What a brilliant little cheap modification this is. One quick question, Is it possible to adjust the spray direction on this type of jet? I used to adjust the normal ones by using a needle in the jet etc. The mist seems to hit my windscreen a bit low down thats all.

I've noticed a few posts on other forums regarding the fact they are a little low. Pondering whether I should get them, but for that small amount of money I'm sure there is no harm in trying them out.

These wide spray jets are adjustable and are also of similar design to the new ford mist type,

Their a bit more expensive at £9.99 for the pair, but with free P&P Click Here B)

They are a little low on my MK5 Fiesta too, but they perform much better and get more area of the screen. AFAIK it's not possible to adjust them like you would with ordinary jets, so I'm leaving mine as they are.

I guess it might be possible to aim them up a little bit, but it would be a case of moving the actual washers up in the bonnet, if that makes sense.

Dan :)

Fitted them on my lunch break, they're not bad but seem to spray my side windows aswell, which isn't good when you got the window down! maybe it'll be different when I'm driving. I'll let you know.

Fitted mine over the weekend - Cheers for the guide in post 1 - piece of cake to do..

Got to say mine are not too low, slightly low but get good coverage, gets the side windows slightly too like Haylo - but this is just tested at stand still - maybe even better on the move.

Seemed to get a lot of excess fluid on the bonnet though - just cleaned and polished the car before i tested them and it had a nice water run down the bonnet!!!

Great little upgrade - better than the jet ones which i often end up blocking with a snapped needle when adjusting LOL

Hi there,

Just upgraded to a 2011 Focus (1.6 diesel Zetec) from a 2007 (1.8 diesel Sport)

- New washers are a great improvement

Without removing the bonet insulation, is there any way to tell whether the washer nozzle is heated?

Hi All

Fitted these mist type jets to my Mk2.5 Focus, today so easy to fit, done it. Thanks Lenny for you excellent guide.

As for heated jets on other models, if the car has quickclear front screen, expect it to have heated washer jets.... my '87 Orion Ghia i, '92 Esoort 1.8i LX(quickclear optional extra), '95 Escort 1.8i Ghia, '01 Focus 2.0i Ghia, '10 Focus 2.0TDCi Titanium have all equiped with quickclear and heated jets.... something every car should have!!!

fernsie best bet is to pull the insulation from the bottom slightly and check to see if you can see a wire...if so heated. dead easy

Not had my focus through a winter yet but if they are as good as the ones on my Escort then there pretty pointless anyhow - Get nice defrosted jets, nice melted patch of ice around the jets on the bonnet but still the washer fluid would freese in the pipes (i presume) - even following the instructions 50/50 mix of concentrate mixture didn't make a blind bit of difference..

Still love the new mist jets.

If the mix is frozen in the tank, the heated nozzles won't help

In Scotland last year we had weeks of -10C and much below. Most screen wash (concentrate'n'all) will still freeze at that temp

Need to invest in good screen wash that will as liquid well below 0C

There are a few out there. If you need some recomendations, give me a shout. I still have a bottle from last year which i've been saving. I can dig it out and get you the name. Worked great down past -16C

More pennies to be spent, sounds like an excellent, cheap MOD

hi johnH quick question just wondered how much the dealers are charging for these... as there is a website ino selling them for £15.49 inc p+p

and lenny probably a stupid question but should all of the focus's have that bonet insulation??

i paid just under a £5 for both from a dealers near gateshead called "jennings washington"

yes all cars come with that insulation, its sound proofing. some people take them off to "lighten" the car or remove them as they tear and dont put them back on.

Also LIDL have very good screenwash which isn't as expensive as the VW stuff!!! (typical of VAG products) and is every bit as good..... both my Mk 1 Focus Ghia and my sister's Mk2.5 Style coped well with the LIDL stuff in the washer bottle and some neat in a plant mister bottle makes great de icer as well... last winter and the one before that. Only drawback, when you see it on shelves in Lidl you're best to buy afew drums of it.... as they don't always have it in stock....

Just did this today, nice. Discovered my car didn't have heated jets, or any under bonnet insulation, so took me all of 2 mins to change.

just received these. the heated type.

bit of an issue, the old jets don't just pop out of place... tried levering them and pushing etc but nothing. any suggestions?

there is a seal around the whole, does this come out too or stay there? it looks like mine have been siliconed in from the excess on the underside of the bonnet

Hi Mate,

sounds to me like they were siliconed in too,

the clips are top and bottom on the jets mate not on the sides so take care not to buckle the bonnet

but push them hard and maybe since they are the old ones, use a flat head screwdriver and snap off the clips will help you

here is an image of the clips that grip the bonnet, ow and the seal goes too should be a new seal with the new jets B)

currently on a tea break lol im cutting the dash to fit the pod ill update my thread later

Just had another look. Pushed them up with a flat head and there was a bit of silicone holding them in alright.

Got me though, there was a rubber seal that i didn't see left on the bonnet, put on the new one and it wouldn't sit down. Took it off and unknown to me the old seal stuck to the new part. Had another go and it wouldn't clip in. So I had a look, noticed there were two rubber seals so took one off to reveal a slightly angled part which I thought might clip in. Sure enough once it was off it clipped in. Wasn't overly happy as I wasn't using them the way they were made, or at least so I thought.

Went over the other side and the old one left the rubber seal on the bonnet but this time I saw it and I released it was the same as the one I took off the first new part.Tok it off and the new one sat in perfectly.

They're working grand, the drivers side one over shoots the side of the windscreen a little but its grand.

Thanks Lenny!

I did this mod a couple of months ago and my driver side one overshoots a little too.

I can't see whether they are adjustable or not, i'm sure someone will be able to put me straight in this regard.
