just had a call from ford, my front brake pads where near metal on metal, i have a buckled front alloy and a slow puncture in the rear off-side... this may be one expensive day :(

Ouch, I feel for ya :(

Had my 2nd service last week, luckily all came back ok. Surprised your pads have gone by 25k, you must really ride the brakes!

Sounds like you may have a sticky calaper.

If your going through pads that quickly, you may want to see if kwikfit are still doing there lifetime guarantee.

Both my fronts were worn 30% at about 8k miles so that kind of ties in :lol:.

Gutted. I (my wallet) used to dread my BM going in for a service because nothing was just routine, there was always something that needed doing. It does amaze me the difference between being a retail customer and a lease customer; things can always be left on a lease car, but are always urgent when you're a normal customer.

My second service in july, I was told a brake fluid change was now part of the service. I have taken it back twice now, first time a nipple on the rear wheel was loose & loosing fluid, and yesterday i took it back with spongy brakes and was told i needed 2 more nipples (oh er).

yeah they did the brake fluid while at it for me, apparently there was an issue with one of the discs leading to the pad wearing quicker, so had front discs and pads re-done... and this is at 26k... :( had too leave it abit after forking out my insurance, came collectively just over 500 quid... what a hoot!!!

Girlfriend went to pick car up and was told they need to change the brake cylinders. can I pick it up tomorrow, what are they and why?

I would have been kicking up a stink - if the excessive wear is due to a fault that was built into the car and/or wasn't pulled up at the first service then I would be claiming the issue under the warranty.

My second service was £130 odd, and on service 3 I had new pads for around £85, how they got to £500+ is beyond me, does that include a new alloy?

the 500 is plus service break pads AND discs, air con and brake fluid re-done... the figure wasnt on the head 500 but there or there abouts, cant quote it specifically as i have forgot!!!

i did question everything down to the finest details, they claimed the damage was a result of use rather than the disc being faulty from stock, and it wasn't spotted first service so that was one they used... but to be honest, i dont ride the breaks, rarely slam on and most my journeys are dual carriage way there and back so i only use breaks coming off, totally confused me, but i do suppose they had me cornered really, couldnt just say naaaa leave my car minus a break for us...

OH and the alloy wasn't changed, it wasn't too severe and for my pockets sake i going to sort that at a later date

Just a point on the brake pads, I've now covered 65k miles and whilst I'm still on the original discs and pads, at both the 37.5k and the last service at 62.5k, I complained of squealing brakes when cold. OK when they warmed up, but the first couple of applications and they would squeal. In fact in normal driving and slight change of direction and you could hear them chirping. Didn't affect their performance at all. Just made a racket. Been cured this time by my regular dealer.

Its funny as mentioned, my van is leased and the lease company are reluctant to change them unless the discs become as thin as rice paper, but I would imagine if it was privately owned they would have charged me to replace them and probably at an earlier mileage.

The dealer told me that there is a service bulletin about the calipers and the way the pads are located, apparantley the design can cause them to stick or vibrate. I understand this involves just stripping them down cleaning/filing any edges and applying the usual copper slip type grease. If not addressed it can cause pads to stick and wear unevenly or prematurely.

Just a thought, it might well have been the problem you suffered.

For anybody else something to bear in mind

in fairness, that 'squeak' noise had been happening for awhile, the only way i can described the noise it was making was like the wheel was rubbing on the guard as i turned, but it just turned out to be pads on metal unfortunately... horrible things cars going to get back on my push bike i think ;)

I've started to hear the odd squeak on mine aswell Nico, front drivers side possible brakes! Needs further investigation....

They probably need stripping and cleaning and regreasing thats all.

Mine suffered the same way.
