Fiesta 1.4 Tdci Life Expectancy?

Hi all,

I know there isn't a fixed answer for this and it can vary a huge amount.. but what would you Fiesta experts say the 'life expectancy' of a 1.4 tdci fiesta is?

I'm trying to plan how long to keep mine for, whilst it's still 'youngish' at the moment (2 yr old with 50k miles), I'm trying to decide whether to replace it soonish or run it into the ground, so it would be useful to have some sort of estimate what sort of milage I could expect to get out of it, as I do about 25k miles a year they add up quite quick!

Any thoughts gratefully appreciated :)

Diesels go on forever don't then? :P

I'm not sure tbh, I'll let someone more qualified answer but I'm sure it's got plenty of life left in it yet!

a diesel engine can easily go 200,000 miles, as long as its serviced on time with high grade oil!!! my uncles picasso has done a 103,000 miles and it hasnt even broken a sweat, it looks like its just been driven off the production line, he uses it to go to gatwick and back everyday.

I think modern cars are getting better and better at absorbing big miles, however you will get to a point where the car will start to cost money as bits wear out. It's not so much the engine, but the other bits such as suspension components, brakes, clutches, turbos etc. I guess when this starts to happen you either need to cut your loses and move on, or chuck some cash at it and run it until it dies.

As a guess, I would say that once you get to a 100k, it is likely to cost you money. It seems quite common for things like turbos to need replacing around this point. A lot will also depend on how you drive it and the maintenance regime; skip corners now and you'll pay for it down the line.

not really helping about how long a fiesta will last but i know of someone who had a transit with something like 450k miles on the clock and still running well as far as im aware

as said though, a well serviced engine will last but its when parts like injectors or turbos need replacing its not worth the hassle (certainly if its got high mileage or has a low resale value)

Friends, I am attaching a video of my 30,000 kms run Ford TDCi . It's emitting smoke from engine oil inlet and from dipstick funnel. Is this normal blowby with TDCi engines? Checked in few other cars with TDCi engines and found some emitting smoke but in some it's not. According to Ford Authorized service Center it's common and normal. But i'm not convinced. Is it the injector seal worn problem or Blowby due to worn piston rings ? There's no excess oil consumption, reduction in pick up and fuel efficiency. Kindly help with this. The Extended warranty is valid only for few months. Any Serious problems.? Kindly enlighten.

That's water vapour, too many short trips round town, take it for a good long run on the motorway.

Is it blow by? I inspected it after 50 km drive and it's still there? I'm really tensed. EMI s are still remaining for five years.

my 2002 1.4 tdci Fiesta has done 243,000 miles. engine and gearbox are still superb.

no big dramas so long as you change the engine oil regularly ( do mine every 4000 miles or 6 months whichever is sooner), change the belts, water pump and other fluids at their correct service intervals. you might want to re-torque the injector clamps when doing a major service as the seals can fail and keep an eye on the bottom gearbox mount on higher mileage cars. the damped auxiliary belt crank pulley fitted to earlier cars (pre dual mass flywheel) can also fail which is characterised by a loud banging noise similar to a shot big end or severe tappet slap. none of this is difficult to fix.

I've uploaded a few videos (more to come) on fixing various issues with this car:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwt1HCdRK0iNiNhG-uNQztQ/videos
