If it's the 6000 just press the volume button for one hour mode.

Hello

I stupidly washed my s-max key fob (is that what they are called - the keyless "key" which is eletronic) in the washing machine. the key has dried out now but it still does not work. is it fixable? if not, how do I get a new key please?

thanks!

David.

First time brosing here as my S Max is giving us grief!

We bought the car in September 09, a 56 plate 2.0 TDCI Titanium with 40k on the clock, in December 09 the flywheel failed and ford replaced under the warranty provided.

Now 14 months and 10400 miles later the flywheel has failed again!!

My dealer are being quite helpful but advised me to talk to "Ford Customer Relations", I think they best comment the guy said was "Well you are the second owner of the vehicle and it is out of its original manufacturers warranty" I read that as you bought it second hand so its not our fault, so should you buy an "approved" used Ford vehicle???

I said I understand that it is out of its original warranty but it is a "new" genuine Ford replacement part that has failed not an original part from when the car was new.

Should a flywheel fail after 10400 miles????

He asked if I was going to accept the 50% contribution to the cost of the part, but when I said its £1400 and the part is not the expensive part he said thats all that was on offer and I would get a new warranty with the part, all well and good untill it fails again after 14 months!!!

I added that if they do not accept liabilty and help me out I would probably chop the car in and never buy a Ford again......

Customer relations my eye!!!

I also have the Turbo whistle, like a leak in an air pipe somewhere, the airbag light is on/off intermittently too.

Time to get shot me thinks............

Any one else had probs with the flywheel issue ???

That's a bit scary considering we've just had ours changed! The last one had failed and taken out the slave cylinder so as the box was off I ordered a new clutch kit. £500 in parts (at a massive discount!) alone :(

10k miles is ludicrous, maybe it hadn't been aligned or torqued properly?

Does my 56 TDCi Zetec S-max have a battery back up sounder in its alarm system? The handbook states only that it could have one of four types . Thanks alan essex

Hello,

as i have found this Fourum, i can ask if anyone can help me. I have a S-Max 2,0 Titanum with a problem. There is a yello point above the Car in the Convers+. The Forscan tells me that there is a failiure in the Lightsystem on the left side. I have a complete new lamp inside and the failiure is still there.

Has anybody an idea what this failure is?

I must tell you first, that i am english-german and live in Germany.

THANKS

Peter

HI

New to this and need some help/advice.

2006 Smax 2.0tdci titanium. Absolutely love it but recently had problems with starting the car. It turns over reluctantly and then eventually fires, will sometimes need to try twice before it does. Asked ford at last service, but they were not sure, said it could 1 of several things. Then this morning it would start at all. In the end wouldn't even turn over properly. Connected it up to jump start it and bingo eventually it fired. So I have replaced the battery and again wouldn't start, turned over a few times and then would even turn over at all. Jumped it again and it started. Took it for a run to give the battery some juice, got home left it for 15mins. Tried again and at first it would fire, tried again and it wouldn't even turn over, then tried again and eventually it started. Wife has taken it to work, but now just waiting for the call that says it wont start again. Any ideas anyone? Oh and to top it all off it keeps telling me that the ford keycode i have is incorrect on the stereo, wonderful!!!

Had similar problem and it turned out to be a faulty alternator

Hi All

I'm looking for some guidance/advice, I own a 2012 S MAX 2.2 TDCI Titanium X which has started encountering starting issues when the engine is hot.  From cold the engine starts fine, but after the first start or after the car has been driven for a period of time, it won't start unless it has been stood for a period of time (normally a few hours).  It has been checked over by a dealer who said the battery was at fault, the new battery hasn't cured the fault......... An independent specialist has checked the injectors and suspects them to be partially blocked and leaking back excessively, they advised there is a known fault on the fuel pump, whereby the internals are breaking down, pushing swarf around the fuel system.  But why does the car start okay from cold?  Surely the issue would be present all of the time?  Now another garage have suggested the 'anti shudder valve', having read up on this it could cause starting issues, but again this should also be present from cold.

If anyone has advise or has experienced the same issue, any help would be appreciated.  We love the car, but right now all we want to do is trade it in and move away from the Ford brand.

Thanks

Hi all, 1st time posting....I’m having issues with my diesel 07 Smax. All of a sudden it’s running like a bus, smells like one too. It seems to be okay once the turbo kicks in but at idle sounds loud and low revs has reduced power. Had a google and I think it may be the fuel pressure regulator. Any help will be extremely appreciated as can’t seem to find the correct part anywhere.

Hi there,

1st time posting. We have bought a 56 plate 2.0 TDCI Smax. A "quirk" that the seller said was that you have to enter the radio code each time you start the engine. He said the battery kept draining itself and that a mechanic said a box needed replacing at a cost of £500. He did something to the wiring which meant he didnt have to replace the "box" but meant that going forward,  the radio code is to be entered. It does save the stations by the way. Any help please as to what this box could be?

Brand new to this so hello to all! I have a (almost) 3 yr old 1.9TDI titanium which I love - there have been a few problems over the years (and thanks guys - I was able to solve one of the issues from looking at this site - after the garage - official dealer - had had it 4 times and hadn't a clue!!) - but the current one is becoming increasingly annoying. Has anyone experienced a whining / whistling when accelerating? It is really loud and sounds like I'm being followed by a police car. I can hear the car coming from quite far off!! It's happening all the time - and a friend's mondeo has recently started the same thing. All the garage says is it might be something to do with the turbo - but they don't know - and suggested what they always suggest - a software upgrade (you'll have gathered I'm not overly impressed with my local dealership!)

Anyway- any suggestions would be extremely welcome. It's getting worse by the day!

Thanks

Hello.

I also have this problem, but inly when the engine is cold. When the engine gets to normal temp the whisteling noice disappears. I do not know why this whisteling only occurs when the engine is cold but I know that the "problem" started when I had my car tuned.

Siren noise is a good sign there is a problem with the turbo and more likely on its way out. The fact yours is now doing it since the car was tuned is not a good sign either, could be a bad tune and over boosting the turbo or the upping of the boost Is highlighting an already existing problem. It would still be worthwhile carrying out a boost and vacuum leak in the engine bay. Find a friend that uses, one of them huge E-cigs. They are really good for this, due to the amount a smoke they can produce.

Starting this thread so all the troubles you have can have an answer.

Hi there,

I have an 07 Ford S-Max 1.8tdci, currently on 169k, not much service and not much history came with the car when I bought it.

A previous owner fitted an incorrect alternator, I believe the alternator was for a 1.8tdci but for the Transit Connect engine. Anyway, it was hammered on pretty bad and some of the wires had been fudged on top of the alternator. So a garage has fitted a 2nd hand alternator but havnt fixed the wiring issue because they didnt know how (back street garage) and now i need to sort the wiring that goes to the top of the alternator, I believe this is the smart charging wiring?

The loom for it comes from the main loom at the bottom in the engine bay, comes up to the alternator and breaks off then goes on to the air con pump. So I have one wire going to the alternator and it a blue/brown wire, yet the plug on the alternator is a three wire plug, wires are blue, orange and a cream colour I think.

Is this simply a case of the wrong alternator being fitted again or is there any wires missing from my loom as there is evidence of loom tampering because underneath the air filter box, a section of loom is unwrapped and open to the elements.

battery light on the dash has been on since purchase and was told by seller that the alternator is charging the battery so it is ok.

Now its not with the other alternator and now battery is dead and I just need a few pointers to help.

Thanks for reading and please help, im desperately stuck!

Hi,

Same problem with S-Max Alarm Module on an '07-plate as the rest of you.

How long before Ford recognise this as a design fault and manufacture a relatively cheap plastic shroud / water diverter, rather than owners incurring expensive repairs following what could be a very dangerous fault in particular situations?

The first time a serious accident is caused by this known and frequently-recurring problem, Ford could find itself the subject of a significant damages claim (not that I approve of our becoming-American-style litigation regime).

Ford: S-Max recall for minor mod or beware!

Hi i have an 07 plate s-max and my alarm started going off when ever it felt like it so i went through all forums and started with the bonnet catch checking wires etc only to find because of lockdown and not going out only shopping about a mile or so each trip for a couple of weeks my battery had dropped a bit of charge so i did a 40 mile run with car and hey presto no more problem with alarm so just worth checking

Hi!

I just bought Ford S-MAX 2016 180hp with keyless-go. The keyless ignition works fine, but not the keyless unlock/lock of the doors. The door handles have the three stripes and driver handle has even a small picture of a lock on it. The Ford service said that it seems this car don't have the keyless locking/unlocking feature. I bet there are experts here who can tell me if it is even possible not to have the keyless entry if you have keyless start and the "keyless entry" handles on the doors? How I can check if the my car has or has not the keyless entry?

There are no key holes on the door handles and the key fobs do not have any blades. The unlocking/locking of the doors works fine when pressing the buttons on the key fobs.

Thanks for the info!

Was running fine. No lights on dash.

Parked up for 2 days. Now won't start. Turn ignition on and get engine malfunction message and beeps.  Then a few more errors appear ie. Power steering fault and transmission service required. Followed by immobiliser active.

Car cranks over but no start.  Stuck in park. Can override this with manual release.

Have put a new battery on today. Still same issue.

Help ! Please .

Follow up.

Having had it plugged in to get some codes. The mechanic informed me that the sensors were all over the place and all out of expected range.  His diagnosis was that the ECU was fried.

So I decided to have a look .

Starting at the fuse box i found that there was no ground for the PCM and Starter relays. Having tested the relays I could see they were ok. A quick check on tinternet revealed that the grounds were supplied by the ECU. Bridging the relay for the ECU i moved on to test the ECU.

The ECU was soaking wet but the plugs were actually in good condition. Now testing the plugs for supply from relays and constant 12v I found that the 3 relay supplies were good but the constant supply was only 9v.

So having tested the wire from the fuse box 10a fuse I found that it was down under load.  Ran a new wire to replace the 12v constant supply and Eureka!

No errors on dash and car runs perfect again.

One happy Wife means happy life for me

Hi everyone, I'm a new member Nd new owner of a high mileage 2007 smax 2.0tdci. Its had full service history (now due) but been owned by a guy who knows absolutely nothing about cars.

I've got an issue i hope you can help with. The car seems to run fine, no noises, no loss of power etc. Other than when cruising at 3000rpm or above it judders severely. When accelerating there is no judder just when maintaining a constant 3000rpm or above. The only over tell tale issue is the car gives out white smoke until warm and on heavy accelerating.

There are no fault codes showing but the egr is still fitted (planning to blank it off) and I havent been able to change out the air filter yet as the screw heads are all rounded off and I don't have all my tools.

I've checked injector seals and can't find any signs of leaks.

Its getting dropped at garage tomorrow to be looked at on Monday but has anyone experienced this before?

The car has 172000 miles but other than this issue the engine seems strong.

Thanks in advance

I have a 2.0 ‘56 smax diesel titanium. Took to garage with grating noises from under front when turning. Had both top mounts replaced - no more noise. Went to start next day but power steering malfunction came up and could barely turn the wheel. Took back to garage who scanned it but could find no faults. Previous to this trouble it has had flat battery multiple times when left for >24hrs. Sometimes not even enough to operate central locking. Could this be anything to do with power steering?
any suggestions appreciated. Garage said they will strip it down and replace parts but wondered if anyone has any experience of these problems

thanks

Hi

parking sensors constantly going off and reverse lights not working. Put the car in the garage and they fixed the fuse and said someone had put paint on the parking sensors on the front of my S-max (2009) and I just needed to scrape off the paint, so did this, sensors worked for approx 2 mins and lights worked fine, but now sensors still not working and reverse lights now not working and reverse fuse has blown again. What do I need to do to fix these problems? Garage said the reverse switch was fine so I don’t know what to do now. Please help

Seems like suspension related to me, was it the case?

It just looks like there is some device taking power from the rear lights. I think it’s usually where they power backing cameras… pull the rear light covers and see if you find any jumper wires there

what fuse ? the alarm system is part of the PATS security system and can't be disabled. If it was as easy as taking the fuse out then it would be a very pointless alarm system.

The alarm system will never go off for no reason, it's not like it's sitting there thinking I'm bored so I might as well have some fun and just go off. You need to find the cause which is possibly a faulty door (or bonnet) switch.

What is the problem with your wipers ?
