2006 Focus 1.8Tdci Warning Light And Rasping

hi all,just joined up here and already impressed with the general info being exchanged.

ive been driving a 2006 1.8 tdci euro 4 focus estate for the last 2 years,its not really been right from day one and ive had the usual run around from the dealers. 2 weeks after purchase it started rasping on pick up between 2 and 3 grand,no warning light or other problems so ive just put up with it til now.whilst driving today the engine performance light came on but disappeared after the engine was turned off and restarted and did not re appear on my second trip.ive been informed this could be linked to the egr valve sticking and that would also cause the noisy pick up or possibly the dpf filter or intercooler pipe.would anyone out there whos had this problem be able to shed a bit more light on it for me?? thanx
