Graham A
Hi all I made an attempt at changing the pads and discs on my girlfriends Mk6 Fiesta today which should have been simple. Unforunately when I tried to remove the 7mm hex bolts that hold the caliper on they wouldn't budge! I actually broke the tool trying to undo them. I assume the bolts do up in the normal direction? Anybody have any experience of doing this job? Not keen paying a garage to do such a simple job! thanks Graham
btmaldon
They do turn the normal way and may need a bit of leverage. In order to get enough it may be worth buying a hex bit to put on a half inch drive ratchet. That should give you more leverage. Alternatively get a garage to loosen them off for you and nip them back up so you can undo them when you get home. I hope the carriers come off easier. stef123
sounds like someone has went a bit mad when tightening them, they shouldnt be that tight, they are only to allow the caliper to 'float' as above really, a hex socket bit is probably the best way to go. you will be able to get one from Halfords or any good motor factors for a few quid.
