Ford Mondeo Titanium X 2009

We bought our Mondeo just under 4 months ago and twice it has failed to start. The first time, the keys opened the doors and the computer screen on the dashboard started up but when I tried to start the car (keyless ignition) nothing happened. A message appeared reminding me to put my foot on the clutch but no other error message. In the end I had to have the car towed home! The following day, the car started but I still took it into a Ford Dealership and they reconfigured the engine management system. Here we are 3 weeks later and the same problem. This time we did have an 'engine malfunction' error message, but it was still 8 hours before the car would start again. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi there

I read a story in the paper last month or so . About several car's with the keyless opition not starting now and then . The cause may of being a household in that street with a wireless video transmitter ,simular to the type that plugs into say a digi box scart port and transmit's to its receiver else where in the house.

It's a shot it the dark i know , but you never know...

Hi Mike

Thanks for that. We took the car back to the Ford Dealer where we bought it and they reckon they found and fixed the fault. They found an electrical fault in the ignition and traced it to a fuse with a dodgy contact. Got the car back yesterday and so far so good. :)

Hi, so far so good. Your starting problem doesn't sound quite the same as ours. Our Mondeo was totally dead; no sound when we pushed the start button. Also wouldn't re-start for about 9 hours regardless of how many times we tried pushing the button. If your car is still under warranty it might be worth taking it into a Ford garage for a diagnostic. Mind you, it took 3 different garages 4 attempts before they found the fault on our car! It might also be worth checking the fuses and making sure they are all making good contact.
