igorsinkovec
GEM is General Electronic Module - you have to enable CC in GEM or it won't work. The CC light on the dashboard is controlled by HEC - Hybrid Electronic Cluster. I couldn't read or write to GEM either until I clicked "Setup adapter for MS-CAN bus". Try that first. About that Windows component error: you have to register all .ocx files with regsvr32.exe (part of Windows system files) http://www.wikihow.com/Register-OCX-Files Good luck trying again!
firefighter
the procedure from wiki is for this ocx files?
igorsinkovec
Yes. Just take care, that Wiki has one wrong screenshot. You have to use "regsvr32.exe", not "repair-bde.exe". The text in the Wiki is correct, just not that one screenshot. And, I don't think it's necessary to restart your computer after.
firefighter
no it won't work.Do you think it's the 64 bit windows 7 the reason
igorsinkovec
Might be. I used 32bit Windows.
Dee_82
64 bit windows wont make any difference, the device works yeah? I mean you can use it for Forscan and some ELMconfig or can you got get it to work at all? As for the wheel and airbag, I didn't actually check the codes, I knew I needed a 4 spoke wheel from a focus mk2 and NOT a cmax, the rest was pretty straight forward, hit eBay and searched for it, ive been looking for ages to be honest and a buy it now or best offer popped up one day at a good price, an I had it the next. if your wanting to do the conversion and use your existing airbag then its going to be a bit more complicated. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus-Mk-2-2-5-Leather-4-Spoke-Steering-Wheel-With-Controls-/141621369450?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item20f94a9a6a that's a tad expensive, but you might get it for 110 120, the hassle you save yourself will be great. there are some covers for a 4 spoke wheel for 50 quid, not much in the way of actual wheels just now thought. Dee_82
as for your ELmConfig software, I want you to delete the folder you downloaded it to, then make an ELMConfig folder in your Documents fold, extract http://civil.iffc.ru/ELMConfig/ELMConfig.zip to that folder then download and run http://civil.iffc.ru/ELMConfig/RuntimePack.exe next up is to configure the ELM adaptor yours looks the same as mine so download the drivers from below and install http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/files/CP210x_VCP_Win_XP_S2K3_Vista_7.exe once installed go to device manager and make sure its working, look for com ports and make sure there are no yellow ! or red crosses, if it does let me know, if its working fine thenuse the guide http://www.spanglefish.com/TunnelratElectronics/index.asp?pageid=520030 to setup the adaptor to work with MS-CAN

Dee_82
do you have the wheel installed? I had enabled GEM before I did the work only to find it didn't work, I had to disable it in GEM and then re enable it before it would function

Danjo
Has anyone had troubles with doing this on a mk2 with the 1.8TDCI engine? I read on another forum that there are issues with writing to the PCM on certain software versions present on the 1.8TDCI, that can lead to the car no longer starting. Milosh
Hello everyone, Milosh here from Bosnia... I haven't read the whole thread (but have read the first few pages) but I believe I know what's needed for activating CC. Despite that, I have a problem activating it, hence I would like to hear your opinion and get some help from you guys. Let me first say that I drive a MK2 Focus (2007, 1.6 TDCi, 66kW, basic trim/equipment). I have all the needed wiring and switches, and my GEM module part number ends in BB (it's a newer type, part number 7M5T-14C245-BB). My PCM module type is: EDC16C34-2. I have installed a modified radio control stalk with built in CC buttons (see the picture): and I connected the two CC wires to the brown and white wires of the steering column clockspring connector. After that, I entered into the GEM test mode which confirmed that the buttons are connected to GEM (pressing of each CC button brings up a beep and indicators flash). I then activated CC in all of the three modules (HEC, GEM, PCM) using ElmConfig v2.16, but CC still doesn't work. When trying to activate it in PCM, I didn't come across any errors and I was able to write in the new VID block without downloading and writing the entire firmware (the steps I used: Read from PCM -> Check the Integrated Speed Control checkbox -> Write to PCM -> Writing finished successfully). I tried driving in 4th gear with speed above 40, 50 and 60 km/h and pressing the ON button, and then pressing all five buttons, but nothing happens. One note, I have successfully written the new configurations to all three modules. When I click Read from (module) in all three of them, their corresponding CC checkboxes are ticked! Then I tried to deactivate CC in all three modules and activate it again, but to no avail, it still doesn't work. I can deactivate and reactivate CC in all the modules, and again, when I read from the modules, the appropriate CC check-boxes are ticked, but it still doesn't work! Do you guys have an idea what might be going on? Is it possible that my GEM module doesn't support CC and yet it beeps in test mode when the buttons are pressed? Thanks for your help! igorsinkovec
First thing I would do is test the radio stalk buttons resistance values. Do you have access to an ohm-meter or multimeter? I know the buttons are probably fine, but this test is the easiest thing you can do and it would eliminate (or confirm) the possibility of faulty wiring. After all, you can't always trust Chinese quality control. Don't forget that even if every button produces a beep that doesn't necessarily confirm their ohm values are correct. If the radio stalk is fine, my guess is a fault or incompatibility in the PCM. Maybe the PCM firmware doesn't support Cruise control? I'm not an expert but that's my gut feeling. Milosh
Thanks Igor, I'll check the ohm values using a multimeter. I have the Focus schematics file. I find it hard to believe that my PCM or its firmware doesn't support CC. Btw, the firmware inside my PCM is the newest version available for that type, dated late 2008.
