Hello

I bought an ELM327 from eBay, made all mods required but the moment I switch to HS CAN the car starts beeeeeeping :). Nothing else happened. Car is still "alive" but in ELMConfig at the HS CAN options, none are available to check/uncheck, read and/or write. Functions on MS CAN seem to be working (only read infos tested) fine. This was about 6 months ago ... but now I would like to try again :) to see if I can make any changes, but for sure the problem still exists since I made no changes to my car and the interface ...

My car : Focus 1.6 TDCI80KW (109PS) G8DD, VIN WF0SXXGCDSAS24542 .

Did I scr*w up something in the ELM interface or my ECU is not compatible ?!

Anyone had the same problem ? Is there any solution ?

Thank you !

Best regards,
Robert Pfeilmayer

When you say it starts beeping can you take a video and upload it to youtube or somewhere so we can see?

Hi

I knew there was something more :D. So I did what you requested ... HERE is the video (unlisted, I hope the link works)

" Engine Malfunction " appears on LCD as soon as I switch to HS

I wouldn't see it as an issue with ECU compatibility as that's not the only module on the HS can-side and they'll all be common across lots of different Focus models just configured differently for car specs.

Have you tried going back to basics and re-checking all the wiring and switch you put in to modify the unit for MS-can/HS-can?

On slightly different subject does the ELMconfig software give any options to help security such as when the PATS can and can't be accessed?

Had a look but couldn't see anything obvious.

This is the 3rd time I check the wires ... I uploaded some photos here, here and here though I doubt that you will undestand anything from my bad photos. Anyway I followed the instructions from here actually.

But now I see something confusing : on the wiring diagram, on the OBD connector pinout says: Pin 6 can HI and pin 14 can LOW. on the wire ELM connector the (red wire) pin 14 is can HI and the (green wire) is can LOW.

Any chance that these 2 wires are inverted ?! Should I invert in ELM connector these 2 wires ?!

Thank you

L.E. : Inverted those 2 wires. same sh*t.

I'm starting to think that there are only 2 possible reasons remaining : ECU incompatibiliti (20%) or "new"/modified ELM clone from china that does not work with this mod (80%).

OK if you've done several checks on the wiring, just the first thing I'd check in your situation.

Is the switch also operating as needed for the mod? i.e. Double Pole, Double Throw?

You could unplug the connectors and do a check on the switch pins to see if it's wired as per the circuit diagram and switches correctly, or do some continuity tests from the OBD connector to the white ELM connector.

Looking at the diagram on the site you linked, switch should function as below.

Take pins marked as looking at rear of switch

1 2

3 4

5 6

In 1 position switch only makes 1-3 & 2-4

2nd position switch only makes 3-5 & 4-6

Then going at the wiring of switch plus OBD and ELM connectors you'd be looking for.....

Hi-speed position - OBD Pin 6 to ELM Pin 6

OBD Pin 14 to ELM Pin 14

Med-speed position OBD Pin 3 to ELM Pin 6

OBD Pin 11 to ELM Pin 14

With switch in each position, check all pin combinations at both connectors to confirm that continuity is only present as per those in the list above.

Sounds long-winded but covers every combination and a methodical way to check all the wiring matches properly.

Hope that helps

Also I think on the diagram for ELM connector it shows the pins as generic high and low for whichever canbus you connect to, not the speed of that bus.

They're just the positive (+) and negative (-) poles of connection which are also confusingly called Hi and Lo

I don't know if inverting the wires to canbus makes any difference but I'd think it does if they are marked + and -, best to just stick with ensuring your set-up matches the diagram exactly as I can't recall anyone highlighting it's wrong. I double checked it against diagrams off other websites when I modified mine.

ELM COnfig will not touch PATS. Civil-ZZ swore he would give it great functionality, but would not for security put that level of interaction into the software.

That's understandable James, still leaves other options I've got in mind which should improve security in that area ;)

I like the sound of that, lets just say I am intrigued :P

Anyway, you can however do this with the right VCM IDS clone!

Wouldn't know where to start with that type of stuff - didn't have anything quite that technical in mind ;)

another elm 327 question to the clever ones on here, got elm 327 usb this week, but cant get it to work/connect to my pc, on windows 8.1 on new laptop but its not recognising the elm, unrecognised device.

also theres no com ports in device manager, so its showing up in usb only(as unrecognised device)

anyone else had this issue

loaded all the device drivers I can find. nothing working so far

thanks for that link, found that link earlier this afternoon, done it all and still nothing, my laptop doesn't show com ports which I find strange, will try another laptop at work on Monday which runs vista so will see if it works on that.

Hi All,

I'm working to access my car and enable cruise control.

I already managed to enable it in PCM and HEC. My elm interface has a Silabs serial/usb chip and has been able to run at 500k baud flawlessly.

I then modified the ELM interface to enable MS-CAN and enable cruise on GEM.

it connects @ 500000, I ran "SETUP ADAPTER FOR MS-CAN", the program seems to be able to read the first page of the GEM (I also tried door modules in Ms-can and it seemed to work)

if I try to read the configuration or VIN on GEM it gives this error:

Incorrect response from ELM to request "10 87": 7F 10 22

Do you have any suggestions to fix this?

thanks

Giorgio

giorgiodav,

battery voltage should be enough and central lock should be unlocked

Ok, I will try again, thanks for the reply,

(And, by the way, many many thanks for creating the program! Do you accept donations for it?).

When I tested this i left the key in ignition positon 2 (like when I programmed the PCM).

Comes up with an error in Russian

I was able to fix the GEM connection error setting the speed to AUTO insted of forcing it to 500k directly.

Thanks

Giorgio

Can someone please please help me. I'm at the end of my tether

Mondeo Mk4 1.6ti 2010

elmconfig is a problem. In auto speed baun it'll do ms no problem read and write but NOT HS.

I've tried a different ELM327, same. Tried a different laptop, same. Messed around with different drivers, ports, speeds, same. Disconnected battery for 30mins, same. There's something fundamentally wrong

I get this

I can connect with forscan in hs and ms fine

"Incorrect response from ELM to request "10 02":

7F 10 22

22 - conditions are not correct or request sequence error"

I ALSO at the same time get ENGINE MALFUNCTION in the display. And everything resets., I've lost one touch window closing and auto heating screen and other things because of it.

No matter what i do. I've tried everything . In FFS and such it's the same as well.
