Ford Focus 1.8 Tdci Fuel Filler Cap Won't Open

I got a 2007 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI. It's got a regular fuel cap which you turn Clockwise and click to close, and according to the user manual turn anticlockwise to open.

However, when I turn anticlockwise it just keeps clicking and won't release/open. The last time I filled up, I just rotated it to the correct orientation then used brute force to pull it off (retaining cable came off in the process...) any ideas? I've tried pushing in and turning (like medicine bottles) but still keeps clicking.

I could be plain stupid but surely it can't be that difficult? Any ideas?

It should just twist off with no pushing or pulling involved.

Sounds like the cap is in need of replacement.

Agree, it should only click when closing. Opening should be a around 1/2 a turn or so anticlockwise. Took the retaing strap off mine, kept sticking in the filler cap groove, did my head in

Thanks for the replies. So just ordered a fuel angel as my replacement cap. Still got 500 miles left in the tank so hope no more wrestling with my car at the pump!

It looks a lot like Ford's easyfuel cap.

Nice.
