I have a Clio at the minute and I hate it and even though I had a horrendous experience with my last fiesta I cant help but want another I loved the way it drove just wish it hadnt had the problem it did (A problem I havent seen mentioned by any other owner ever which it turned out was a drive shaft failure causing a horrible wobble on the motorway.)

Anyway I have had a change of circumstances at work and can now take finance so am considering a Fiesta Diesel but I've driven a 207 1.4 HDi and the engine was horribly underpowered but still quite good on fuel (one of the main gripes with my Clio as its lucky to get 40mpg driven at 60mph on the motorway) anyway I was wondering what was the best bet? I have around a 10k budget for typical finance rates and it has to got to be a 59 or newer I also dont want anything below a Zetec as I wouldnt want to lose my alloys and Air Con.

So yeah is the 1.4 as bad in the Fiesta as it was in the 207? And also is the 1.6 better by enough to be worth the extra cash?

Yes, go for the 1.6 :) Could also remap it up to 115/120 if you wanted more power.

I'd suggest going for the 1.6 TDCI, my mum has the 1.4 TDCI and it's alright for her needs. Though I've never driven the 1.6 TDCI I've heard many good things, I've taken the 1.4 on a 400 mile round trip, and it wasn't overly pleasant. It feels a bit gutless and has some pretty big flat spots which seem to be positioned at roundabout entry speeds.

Thanks for the replies I will keep them in mind. I am especially glad you mentioned those flatspots because thats what I hate about my Clio as I need 2nd gear to get on a roundabout and the engine has to scream because in 3rd it has nothing at all. Also in 1st it has no power it sort of just lurches forward you brace for the power and it never comes its a very peculiar car and not a day goes by where I dont regret buying it.

i love my 1.6 TDCi, mainly for the economy tho.

also, if you buy it from a ford retail group dealer rather than a franchised one, in my experience, they treat you a bit better, in general

was your last one from a FRG dealer?

I'm picking my 1.6 TDCi ZS up today. This is the only 1.6 which isn't an ecoboost. Will let you know the fuel consumption I'm getting.

My last one was ford retail group yes and I've never been treated so poorly thye just refused to acknowledge time and time again that there was a fault with the car until I got trading standards involved as soon as they contacted them they had another look at my car found it should never have been sold as it was legally unsafe and I had them refund me I wont be buying from them again thats for sure this one will be coming from where I bought my Clio from they have been very helpful they have tried to find what is causing the Clios peculiarities but they gave me a Clio as a courtesy car one time they had it and it turned out it was the same for all it was just rubbish haha. I am currently looking at a 60 plate ZS TDCi (so the 95 engine) I think if all is well it will be ordered this month at some point.
