Overheating Tdci

[full throttle]

I have a 54 plate 1.6 tdci, when going up hill or with the engine under load the temperature guage rapidly rises into the red the engine looses power and then sometimes goes into limp mode, get over the hill or drop down the gears and the temp quickly returns to normal, any help would be appreciated
